WWD EXCLUSIVE: Valentino To Step Down
Published: Tuesday, September 04, 2007

Valentino is set to resign later today, WWD has learned. The designer will announce he will do one more ready to wear show and one more couture season, then step down. Valentino’s decision follows his three-day 45th anniversary celebrations in Rome in July.

The designer’s future at the company has been the subject of much speculation over the last year, especially following Permira’s acquisition of Valentino Fashion Group this past spring. Valentino and his business partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, have consistently stated over the last year that they would step down when they were ready, although as recently as July the designer was insisting he had no firm plans to do so.

Oh, good Lord, no!!!

What's going to happen to the fashion world???? In a few years we'll be like a slump!!!!

i cant say i`m surprised but there has been so many changes in the fashion world this year

so sad, but lately he was a bit repetitive with the collections...
I can't stop thinking about s/s 2003 collection, or s/s 2004
so feminine, and beautiful

who could take his place?
maybe roland mouret¿?
or someone totally new?

What on earth will happen to the brand? I can't think of anyone else that would really be able to capture what Valentino is.

yeah- this was coming...

they have about another 6-8 months to settle on a replacement...
theyskens would have been a good fit imo...but he's got a job already...

what about those proenza boys...:innocent:...

Former Gucci designer Alessandra Facchinetti is thought to be first in line as a replacement, with Giambattistta Valli, Stefano Pilati and Proenza Schouler duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez in hot pursuit

Imagine Stefano Pilati at Valentino!! I'd be very surprised if Jack&Lazaro take over Valentino.

Ooh, Theykens would be an interesting choice. At the end if the day it's a business and someone will replace him much to our dismay.

Fashionista, you're right there really has been a lot of upheaval in the fashion world this year.

No No No! This can't happen!
There is only one Valentino and one man who can make it Valentino and thats Valentino Garavanni himself!
This is bad

Maybe someone like Oscar De La Renta could be the replacement? I could definetely see it.

I'm notice that the article says he is resigning instead of retiring, though. Perhaps he will continue to create just for the joy of it.

Theyskens would have been an interesting choice, indeed. Stefano isn't off the mark either, though I think he is quite at home with YSL. The prospect of the Proenza boys taking over is exciting. It'd inject modernity into the house, though I wonder if they've got enough artistic focus to harness such an undertaking.

Can we let Galliano handle the house??????
we sure will see Valentino-ladies-turn-whores dresses with 8 inch heels, geisha make ups that will raise Valentino's blood pressure...

lol kidding...theysken will be really interesting....but theysken is more into dark poetic romance simplicity but valentino is kind of romantic simplicity with mature colours and details

Make way for the new generation I say.

I agree with softgrey, Proenza would be perfect.

Valli seems like he'd be a good choice. He's got that whole glamour thing down pat, slightly old world couture, but with an edge.

Proenza is too erratic to me. One season is great, the next is questionable....imo anyway.
