Maria Grazia Chiuri exits Valentino

You guys are so delusional, she's the best thing that could have ever happened for a commercial brand like Dior being part of such a huge conglomerate like LVMH.
If she is out, it's because SHE WANTS TO!
It's funny how most people complain about her being boring and wanting Galliano back...too bad his drag queen extravaganza vibe is so out of touch and terribly passè. No one in real life wants to look like Gwendoline at Margiela Couture show or Gisele cosplaying Elvis with leopard print creepers and laminated gold coat with huge fur collar.

I’m somewhat with you, but not in the argument that MGC didn’t ruin, or let’s say interrupt, Dior’s as a respectable fashion house. However, I do agree that something changed, people bought into it, and it’s working. I think that deserves some respect.

Interesting profile, by the way.

I adore Maria Grazia, she's the definition of pragmatism. Her offerings target that kind of audience that is so filthy rich that buying Dior RTW is like going into Zara, or women who wear high fashion just as status symbol, to flex that designer tag or logo and do not wanna look like fashion victims. If you wanna flex and be avant garde at the same time, you go for Louis Vuitton by Nicholas Ghesquiere with the monogram designed (sometimes overly) pieces, if you wanna simply flex by having no real interest or passion for high fashion intended as a business or an art form, you get a book tote.
I also applaud Maria Grazia for being able to get the Lady Dior back in the spotlight and dusting it off that air of "old money / granny" bag. Also the success of the book tote, the ribbon slingbacks and the slides is remarkable. Some people would argue on the revival of the Saddle, but I think in that case she did not do anything special apart from reissuing it. Let's see if the Groove "speedy" inspired bowling bag will be a success.
I love and admire Galliano, but let's be honest, he was never a commercial friendly designer. The disconnection between the runway pieces and the shops offerings was HUGE! Dare I say in store you could find Maria Grazia elevated pieces and tacky y2k accessories, not mass friendly at all. Also remember Galliano last years at Dior were terrible with the autopilot ready to wear shows and the tulle overload for haute couture. This is why Dior couture sales under Maria Grazia skyrocketed, she makes something that is wearable in daily life, Galliano was just too pompous and passè.
