It is her long thin legs that make it work... Socks and sandals look lovely on her but it would look horrible on a smaller or more curvy girl. Imagine socks in sandals for example on Scarlett Johansson...

I think socks can work with chunky high heels or brogues. It's not all about slim legs - not even Chloe Sevigny, who has the best legs ever, could make socks and flat sandals work imo.

I agree Diamond Sea, you need a chunky heel the wear short socks with. I also agree with Octopussy though, I've got chunkier calves and socks that length look silly on me.

i saw alexa in the subway yesterday on my way home from work! we were passing each other on the staircase so it was hard to get a solid look, but she was wearing a grey tweed blazer, short navy blue dress, bare legs, and some brown platform shoes/sandals. she's much taller than i thought she was (though i guess she's a model so not so surprising)...i'd estimate her to be 5'8.5 easy. and wayyy tiny (as skinny as anja rubik, i'd say). didn't love her hair- looked a little greasy to me.

but anyway i figured out from her independent column (one where she said there is a junk shop in the basement of her apartment) that she lives only one block from me, so hopefully there will be more sightings to come
