The 34-year-old Swedish actor met up with co-stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, as well as the HBO show’s creator Alan Ball, on the red carpet before heading inside the theater.

True Blood stars Alexander Skarsgard and Anna Paquin reinterpret the classic Grant Wood painting American Gothic on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue, on newsstands Friday (June 24).

Also with Anna on collectible covers are Stephen Moyer and Joe Manganiello!

Here’s what the True Blood stars had to share with the mag:

Anna, on Sookie’s attraction to three men: “There’s yearning and longing, lust and protection from those three relationships. And it’s very difficult for her to choose, and she doesn’t want to choose, either.”

Alexander, on why he likes the show to differ from the True Blood books:“You want fans of the books who’ve read them a million times to still be surprised when they watch the show. We can’t be like, ‘Oh, well, now this is going to happen, and now this is going to happen, and here’s that.’ It’s important to keep it fresh.”

Creator Alan Ball, on being proud of the series: “One of my favorite things I’ve heard is how one of our former assistant directors was visiting her college girlfriends in Texas and one of their husbands came up to say, ‘I just have to thank you for the show because we’re having the best sex we’ve had in years,’ and I’m like, ‘Good! That’s good!’”

Alexander Skarsgard looks out into the distance as he leaves the Versace store on Friday (June 24) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 34-year-old Swedish actor recently sat down for an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

Speaking about True Blood, Alex said, “I think it’s over-the-top, it’s sexy, it’s wild, it’s violent, it’s all that…It’s just a wild fantastic sexy way of telling stories about our struggles in everyday life.”

“They’re really good people, the whole cast, I love working with them,” Alex said about the cast. “The atmosphere is so great and so loving and so generous,” he added.

Here’s a synopsis of the film, out September 16: “David and Amy Sumner (James Marsden and Kate Bosworth), a Hollywood screenwriter and his actress wife, return to her small hometown in the deep South to prepare the family home for sale after her father’s death. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, including Amy’s ex-boyfriend Charlie (Alexander Skarsgard), leading to a violent confrontation.”

Way back before he was a mega star, Alexander Skarsgard attended Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK, and today he returned to his alma mater for a very special honor.

The “True Blood” stud received an honorary doctorate degree from the prestigious institution, and looked thrilled at the gesture.

And though he’s rich and famous now, it sounds like Alex still has fond memories of his university days.

Skarsgard told press, “I had a blast. People were super-friendly and I had a great time. I still support Leeds United.”
