Alexandra Shulman Leaves British Vogue as EIC, *Update* Edward Enninful Confirmed

Testino's workflow is going to lighten that's for sure.

In a way, I think it's a good thing that we will be seeing more diversity in the magazine. I think that's a major part of Edward joining. The UK is after all a very diverse population that wasn't best represented in the past and if nothing else, Edward is a great champion for that.

True!! Didn't think about that.

Now that he's out at W, who will replace him??

Wow last person I would think would get it. Not a fan of his work for last few years at W, but willing to give him a chance. What a story his career is. Good luck.

Woah! I enjoyed Edward's work at W when he joined - his work certainly got stale after a while, but I don't think it was solely his fault. W's energy went down, Tonchi didn't seem to be trying as much and I guess it's expected of everyone else to not go out of their way to produce extraordinary work.

I am also very pleased that we will see more diversity in Vogue UK and that Naomi is finally going to get the inclusion that she deserves - as silly as that sounds now, decades after she became a household name. It will be interesting to see Edward's idea of Vogue for sure!

On a side note, two out of the four "big" editors-in-chief are now men.

Yes! Picked up on that as well. And in both cases the stakes are quite high. Not sure what to make of that yet.

It will be weird to see Steven Klein at British Vogue, but how about the other Steven? I wonder if Enninful will be able to court Meisel (with the help of Pat). And who on the staff will stay (Lucinda? Kate Phelan? Kate Moss?). Because Verity comes across as very adaptable, I think she'll fit in well. Plus her styling is very close to what Edward did over the last few months at W.

Suddenly it will be so much easier for models to finish their top four. I know there's an exhausting roster of established girls, but let's deal with Raquel and Hilary Rhoda first, please!

That's amazing news! He's come a long way. I remember watching him in The September Issue as a timid and soft-spoken stylist that has his story killed by Anna Wintour. Now look at him, the EIC of British Vogue. That's quite a feat!

It's interesting that men are starting to take over the big magazines and women are starting to takeover the big fashion houses. This role reversal is interesting.

Interesting times ahead. If he manages to kill the "super posh bohemian mother and her uber blond kids eating Sunday roast in the Cotswolds" vibe that has been the bread and butter of Vogue UK for more than a decade, he is already winning in my book.

But potentially not winning in the sales figure department. Whilst we all felt like the magazine was beyond dull, Alexandra brought with her the highest sales figures of the magazine. I suppose a lot of that could be due to the cover price's constant reduction, but still. People were buying her idea of Vogue.

Really excited for Edward! It'll be fascinating to see how he interprets his aesthetic for the British Vogue audience. I expect to see more models of colour in the magazine, and hopefully we'll start to see the magazine championing girls who aren't from well connected famililes...

Good for Edward. Lets hope he can spice up British Vogue.

Up until 2015 (when he started using the celeb models) I really liked his model choice. He seems to have a lot of personal relationships with a few models.

It won't be easy for Edward, i hope he is more assertive these days, he will have to be around those CN suits now that he has the top job! But most of all, i look forward to see more diversity at UK Vogue!! Shulman was just shameful in her lack of it, and she never got any bad press over it, they let her get off the hook, all the time!

Hopefully it also means less celeb covers, and more focus on models, and variety of photographers! I could see Meisel getting a major place in the magazine now, and of course Mert&Marcus will be even more present!

Coleridge was part of the reason behind the nepotism overload, and he now he too will be gone. So yes, perhaps the magazine will move away from the Cara/Georgia/Suki clique.

He officially takes up the position as of August 1st.

Thanks for the info honeycombchild. So I suppose this means his first issue is November, possibly Oct even! Wish we got rid of Shulman sooner, and he got the start with Sept issue, but oh well......

In a way I hope his first issue is December and we get a great festive issue with his take on what Vogue is at Christmas.

What a surprise! Edward, was the last person I though would be appointed to this position. I'm so proud of him! Can't wait to see what he does.

Wow! This is very exciting, indeed!

He's quite a radical departure in almost every sense form Alexandra, so clearly the powers that be are trying to shake things up at UK Vogue. They know that this choice represents a major shift in tone of the magazine and they're willing to take a risk on that.

We're definitely going to see more Naomi and Jourdan covers and I am SO HERE for that! haha.

I am surprised but thrilled! What a fantastic choice. I love that they didn't go for someone obvious who would carry on the same type of Vogue that Alexandra is leaving behind, this marks a real change and a desire to freshen the magazine up; something that is desperately needed.

Edward obviously loves fashion, while Alexandra ensured a profitable magazine she was never in love with it's subject so hopefully Edward will bring the focus back to style. The UK is a diverse place with a great fashion history and I'm hoping Edward's vision reflects those things, focusing on Britain as a whole and not just wealthy Londoners.

I love what this means for the change in photographers. I like that British Vogue features new talent but it desperately needs some star names (other than Testino) shooting regularly. I hope we get to see Nick Knight, Inez and Vinoodh, Mert and Marcus and Meisel in the magazine more often now, as well as a more diverse and exciting cast of models appearing on the pages regularly.

I always felt UK Vogue had the potential to be as influential, modern and visually appealing as Carine-era Vogue Paris was, so I'm hoping Edward will be able to push it to be the great publication it can be. I think the mixture of Edward's point of view and Conde Nast's constraints will create something really exciting; a balance of something more fashion-forward with the commercial. It's Edward's moment to shine and I have a lot of faith in him.
