She's graced the cover of Vogue Magazine, walked the runway for some of the biggest names in fashion, and she was born and raised right here in North Texas. Ali Michael says, "I've worked with Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, Dior."
Today she is living the super model dream come true. The fashion forward 19-year-old has a sophisticated style well beyond her years, which we found out when we went shopping with her for fall trends at her favorite shop in town, Barneys. Ali says, "One of my favorite designers is Alexander Wang and he just came out with these boots that are very me, I like kind of a grungy, dark, rockery kind of feeling. Okay, so Givenchy is one of my favorite lines, this is kind of a gorgeous coat."
But she hasn't always been this way. Ali says, "In school I was teased about having big eyebrows and pale legs, they called me glow sticks in gym class." At 15, the Colleyville raised local tried out for the Fashion Dallas Kim Dawson Model Search. She says, "At the time I was a big tom boy, just riding horses not model material, in my opinion at all." But the judges disagreed, she won and her life changed overnight. Ali says, "From there, Milan, Paris, London, Tokyo and the whole shabang."
Now she lives in New York, but come back to Dallas to see family, friends and yes, to shop. And while she knows the top designers like Prada, Gucci and Lanvin, " I actually did an ad for one of their perfumes and they were my first big break," her personal style is understated, cool and comfortable. She says while shopping, "We are right here at T by Alexander Wang which is what I live in every single day, they're just super super soft, feel that, it's amazing, they're affordable, they're basic, they last forever, every color, so I'm kind of obsessed with them."
But her number one fashion advice, wear what resonates with you and you'll always have style, "I think it's all about the confidence to pull it off, I don't think there should be rules of what not to do and do." Spoken like a true Texan.
