i like that you might not be able to tell that these are sources of light if they are not turned on...

this is EXACTLY what i first thought..
i had to look closely...and then read the little blurb..
before i was sure that it was actually lighting...

magnificent, isnt it?...

i really want one for my bedroom..
they are so calm and peaceful...

must be super expensive though..

you probably have to special order with the size you want and stuff like that..
seems like a made to order sort of thing..

so beautiful though...

we have this high-ceilinged family room at my house with a pitched roof (i think thats what it's called.. ceiling shaped like this "/\" if that makes sense...)
currently there is a ceiling fan at the point (which we never use) and having a few of these branches of different lengths and "growing" in diverging in different directions could look so amazing..
especially because the room is already very warm and sort of earthy feeling
bamboo shades, a great golden brown color on the walls, some kind of palm tree in the corner and more plants...

i'll just pretend something like this is in there next time i look at the "offending" ceiling fan

what a weird material
i saw his website, very interesting, he sometimes uses paper
he often mixes weird materials together, just creating structure with urethane and wire

you write it's your photos
do you mean you took them at a gallery?
i can't find Gaetano's lamp in his website portfolio... do you happen to remember what it's made of?

i'm working on a design collection... and the guy has this in his collection...
and a lot more from Gaetano Pesce...
i think this is plastic...or latex...
i'll make more photos when the installation will be done (in about two weeks...)

they look so beautiful lit up...
i finally found the designer...

Ali was born and raised in Iran where there is lots of sunshine. He found in Britain they don't have much in the way of natural light for a large part of the year so he figured why not turn this negative into something positive. Rather than being depressed about the gloom Ali decided to try to design lights that would be a genuine source of amusement and fun and perhaps a replacement for his missing sun.
Ali moved to Britain in 1988 and while studying for a degree in Graphic Design at St Martin's he became frustrated by the limitations of 2D design, so he went on to study for a MA in Industrial Design.
Ali's use of repetition and found objects combined with his sense of humour has produced a unique sense of design.

Nick Foley's Pear Light

"Custom made from hand-forged steel, this tree of light comes bearing fruit with rechargeable LEDs that allows you to take the lights with you down dark hallways. Once “picked” from the tree, each pear stays illuminated for about an hour. To bring it back to life, just place it back on the tree, where it will recharge for your night-viewing pleasure."

Stuart Haygarth - 'Aladdin'

This body of work called ‘Aladdin’ is based on collections of different coloured glassware found in flea markets, car boot sales and junk shops. The groupings of glassware although different in shape, texture and function are united by their respective colour. At present there are four separate collections : amber, green, purple and clear, each differing in size reflecting the relative quantities of objects found.
The collections are housed in lightbox vitrines resembling museum showcases, which would normally be used to display artefacts but here actually function as floor lights. When illuminated the glassware magically glows like jewels. Although the glassware is presented in a precious way giving the objects a treasure like appearance, ‘all that glitters is not gold’.

Spectacle

Spectacle is created from 1020 pairs of prescription spectacles which are linked together to resemble a traditional tiered chandelier. By using prescriptive spectacles which were once an essential tool for seeing an interesting analogous line is drawn between their old and new purposes. A mirror ball light effect is produced as the light is refracted through the several layers of lenses. The chandelier comes in two sizes.
Materials : acrylic platform, plastic framed spectacles.
