There's a fine knit, cotton sweater I adore and want to order online, but it's only available in large and I usually wear small. I'm pretty experienced in sewing but I've never done anything with sweaters. Could I alter it on a home serger? It has raglan sleeves so I wouldn't have to worry about shoulder seams. Has anyone done this before?

Never done it but I do not think it would be that difficult. Give it a try and if you mess it up just turn it into something else.

I have taken in quite a few sweaters on a serger. The lighter the knit the better it works. I used a 4-thread overlock stitch with wooly nylon in loopers for a soft feel and more stretch. The only time I have run into trouble is the shoulders being long. They can be tricky to take up on a sweater. Hope this helps :D

Thanks! Do you think a 3 thread machine would be fine?

I would think it will work fine, maybe serge it twice so the seam holds together well.
