Ami Menswear S/S 2023 Paris

I mean choices…
Terrible styling, terrible shoes, terrible walkers…
And again choices: what they made the big girls wear and the fact that Karen Elson looks bigger than what she is.

I love Alexandre and thank god the success of his brand is not tied to the shows because that’s a terrible one.

I like the gingham pink blazer. The menswear is stronger tho. He should collaborate with Pierre Hardy for the shoes.

When you make Karen Elson look like a plus-size model, you know you are doing something VERY wrong...but it seems he is very happy doing it...

Fantastic casting and location.... he only forgot to actually design a collection to go with it. This is literally H&M trying to do Hedi's Celine.

I really like Ami as a brand but I’m still not sold on the fact that shows bring anything to the table for their products.

But I totally understand Alexandre’s desire to host them for sheer pleasure. What I find harder to understand is their aim to gradually upscale the brand. I wish them success though.

I must point out that their emphasis on leather goods (with the Deja Vu campaign for example) should be rooted in a more…qualitative…offering.

All their leather goods (or accessories for the matter) feel very cheap irl (especially those squared clap shoulder bags).

This should have been a look book or catalogue. None of these pieces warrant a full show so it’s really a waste of finances that could have gone to better production and cutting of the garments.

It's like if Hedi Slimane and Michael Kors had a baby.

It’s very sad…a total waste of resources since the clothes look totally awful on the models thanks to that styling!

The only positive note in this collection is seeing Audrey Tautou.

In terms of quality, it's maybe better Jacquemus but design-wise it's the same.
He spent all his budget on the cast because the clothes are just beyond mediocre. When you put on a show at least add some spice to it. This is just a parade of merchandise.
He needs a new stylist because clearly, Carlos Nazario is not helping at this point. Neither go back to Pau Avia or ask Carine, at least they can elevate this "Parisian Normcore" look.

Honestly, I feel like designers include plus sized models to mock them at this point. Precious' and Paloma's outfits were hideous and poorly conceived.

And where are the plus-size male models, btw? Haven't possibly the casting directors found the male-version of Paloma (in case, I suggest a stroll at a Walmart on any given day)? Hasn't the inclusive dogma reached the other half of mankind yet?

I like the coats - the pink trench is great.

very good cast though…

Her walk was painful tho.

Exactly, AMI’s POV is a French. This kind of elevated basics with nonchalance but also formality is very French. So it makes sense to have a Parisian or at least a French person styling. Pau Avia may not be French but he is Parisian, he is the AMI man in a way and he understand the spirit of the brand beyond the stylistic effects.

Everything in this show feels very « global » in a American sense of the word. Big girls in tight denim shorts, the boots with those outfits and a lot of stylistic details aren’t very French or Parisian. The collection is filled with gimmicks.
It may have been shown on the Sacré Cœur, It hasn’t the spirit of Paris.

I didn’t want to name him but the Hedi references are obvious. Hedi is a fabulous stylist tho. Not because he is French but because there’s a complete coherence between the message and the result…

Even Koller could have styled it. She does a great job for APC.

Beyond that, I hate the fact that when he got bigger, Alexandre just went for the obvious popular stylist when he had a great thing going on.

Terrible...

It's Saint Laurent without the sex-appeal.
It's Celine without the rock-edge.

I don't know who the Ami woman is...Does she need to exist ? I mean the brand was great doing menswear and including women during the show, and having a tom-boy vibe.
In Paris, the brand emerged as a friendly competitor to A.P.C..but the last seasons I think that the vibe has evolved to "wannabe Saint-Celine".

Not a great show.

Also, please stop putting Kristen in shows. Her walk is terrible.

I see Hedi at Celine and a bit of AV at Saint Laurent with the spirit of Soho NYC.

I hate his shows, they completely diminish his otherwise very decent wardrobe. I wear a lot of Ami but wouldn't wanna be associated with this stank mess.
