style.comWhich models have impressed you this season?
It’s a season full of real beauties. I have so many favorites. With some of them I have great memories. Roos Abels, who opened Giamba last season, also did our campaign and our Pre-Fall lookbook and she is a sweetheart. Annika Krijt worked a lot with us in Paris before the couture season and we love her. Amilna Estevão is a star and she is so funny. Noa Vermeer, who opened Giamba this season, is so smart and such a fast learner. Elizabeth Davison is great. And I think Paula Galecka and Sophia Ahrens are stunning. Lieke de Jong, Anisia Khurmatulina, Freja Sørensen, and Sofie Schultz—our exclusive girls—are amazing and such a pleasure to work with.
yahoo.comI’m not one to ooh and ah over models, until now. After two words with Amilna Estevão backstage at Vera Wang, I was spellbound. Maybe it’s because of her melodic accent (Portuguese), her razor sharp cheekbones or that fact that she looks like a perfect mashup of Lupita Nyong’o and Naomi Campbell. This 16-year-old model – who hails from Luanda, Angola – is one to watch. And it’s only Estevão’s first fashion week, but she’s already taking it by storm.
Backstory: Estevão was discovered in 2013 after participating in the Elite Model Look competition in Angola. From there, she went on to the Elite International competition in China and won third place. This is Estevão’s first time on the New York runway, but she’s already considering making a permanent life in America.
Why she matters: She’s already walked in Prabal Gurung and Vera Wang; opened for Rag + Bone; and had a spot in the holy grail of shows, Alexander Wang.
What she would be if not a model: The only thing modeling and airplanes have in common is a runway, but she still could imagine a life in the skies. “I would be a flight attendant because I like to travel and I like seeing the clothes in different countries.”
Her role model: Estevão aspires to be like South African model, Candice Swanepoel. “I like her body and her personality. Plus, I think she is a very strong woman,” she says.
What calms her before the show: “I just breathe and listen to Afro-House. It’s African music. It’s very different.”
