Andi Muise
by mooishiIt's not hard to come up with good things to say about Andi Muise, especially when so many people keep telling me how amazing she is.
Last month it was a former roommate from Milan e-mailing to tell me "Andi Muise deserves more attention here in Canada," and she is "so sweet and should be on all the covers here!!"
Last week it was a flabbergasted mooishi remarking "Andi can't take a bad shot!"
It's always her ever-supportive agent, International Model Management's Michèle Miller, raving about the girl she discovered in a Barrie shopping mall.
But this isn't just about what I've been told. When I talked to Muise last year there was something about her that was different. She's the smart girl in the beer commercial. There's another girl making eyes at you, but you're looking past to see Andi. She's the laughing one whose conversation you're trying to overhear.
It was a switch to Marilyn's last year that rocketed Muise's career skyward. In a very short timeframe she was doing campaigns for Emporio Armani and FCUK; and shooting GQ and Allure. Most impressively however, Muise was cast in the most visible fashion show in the world - the Victoria's Secret fashion show.

To the credit of Modelresource readers, you were way ahead of the game. By November Modelresource readers had made Muise's page of photos the second most popular page on this website, and she finished third in Modelresource's poll to determine which newer Canadian model you felt would have the greatest impact in 2006. By December "Andi Muise" was the most popular search phrase on this site. Clearly you wanted to know more about the native of North Bay.
Ordinary Canadians were starting to notice too, as evidenced by numerous reports in the mainstream media. By January Fashion Magazine was shooting Muise for her first major Canadian magazine spread, and last week Fashion Television cameras were following her around for the day. Finally the girl is getting the recognition she deserves.
And THIS is what I like so well about Andi Muise. Despite all the success and notoriety she has enjoyed she remains the same girl that - along with her Canadian photographer/boyfriend Jeffrey Graetsch - drywalled the couple's Brooklyn flat.
I spoke to Muise again last week at the IMM Cover Model Search in Barrie:
Andi Muise
by mooishiModelresource (MR Is it different being a lingerie model that a typical fashion model?
Andi Muise (AM I still have to watch my weight, because when you're doing underwear you definitely don't want jigglies where jigglies aren't supposed to be.
It's more nerve-wracking too.
MR: You look like it comes quite naturally to you.
AM: It feels natural. I'm very comfortable with it. But there are certain things I'm not comfortable doing. One outfit on the runway today showed my butt, and I wasn't really happy about that.
MR: You took it pretty well.

"the dress that hiked up"AM: I didn't even get to try the outfit before I went. They yelled "Put this on!" and I walked out. It hiked way up and that's the way it went. It's unfortunate, but whatever. It's better than tripping on the runway.
MR: How is it coming back to Barrie?
AM: It's great. I only get back here about three times a year, so I don't see people very often. So many of the girls I grew up with are here at Michele's model search – I don't see them very often and they're good friends of mine.
MR: Do people here treat you differently now?
AM: Yeah, everyone's like "It's great to see you, Oh my God." I just want to come home and be myself, and want my parents to be my parents, and not 'supermodel this' and 'supermodel that.' I'm like "Mom, please. I'm not a supermodel – I'm a model. I'm still Andi."
I just want people to know I'm still down-to-earth, and not a diva. I'm still the same person and I do the same things. I sit on the couch and leave my dishes everywhere.
andi is one of those models, we had 20 minutes from the moment she stepped onto the no-seam... with camera crews (Fashion Television) and a crowd of andi fans all around us. Bryan (we’re a photo-team) and I took a shot roughly every 3 seconds, and I can tell all of you, she never looked bad once.
andi, mooishi’s next time you’re in Toronto? no crowds or tv crews this time around
