Hope this isn't a repeat- I'm enjoying this thread but didn't have time to look at everything! This is Katharine Hepburn in Sylvia Scarlett (1935). I've got a few more Kate pics in mind but I have to dig them out!

Is it bad to look at some of these people and truly not be able to tell whether they are female or male? :(

I look like the female version of Hayden Christensen.

Marilyn Manson (probably mot everyone's cup of tea, but I really like this pic) (rollingstone.com)

I've never posted before, but I wanted to add a few of my favorite pictures...Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop, the New York Dolls, Prince, David Bowie and Marlene Dietrich. The New York Dolls had absolutely the best hair!

And just a few more...more Marlene, Anna Karina, more NY Dolls, and Francoise Hardy, the silent movie Wings, (I love this thread to death, and think most models look really good in an androgynous look.) Unfortunately some of them are bitmap files and I don't know how to change them, but I think they're worth looking at.

i thought i'd bring in a little something here....
i am reading about androgyny as it relates to roles of parenting in moral philosophy, but was struck by this particular section.....it reminded me of softie, and tfs in general, so i thought i'd share....

"....androgyny constitutes the most radical conception of expressive individualism that a society can imagine. it is the belief, quite simply, that human completion is a solo act. it is the insistence that the pathway to human happiness lies in transcending the old polarities of sexual embodiment in order for each individual man and woman to embrace and express all of human potentiality within his or her self.....no longer, in this view, do we accept otherness as a biosocial fact. instead, we appropriate otherness into the self....."
-david blankenhorn

the author actually goes on to highlight the danger in this.....and reject its contribution to the roles and ideas of parenting.....
but isolated from its context, i thought it was very applicable to androgyny in fashion.....
and rather fascinating.....an interesting interpretation.....
