In post 276, second photo, if you zoom in, you can see blonde hair still, so I doubt she dyed it
THE FRESH FACE: ANMARI BOTHA
The latest segment in CR’s ongoing series profiling fashion’s rising stars
“Fashion was never really part of my life until I became a model,” says Anmari Botha. “I grew up on the Western Coast of South Africa and no one I knew was even mildly concerned about fashion, so I was never influenced by the industry.” That’s not the case any longer. After the blue-eyed blonde model first debuted on the runways in New Zealand, she took the New York runways by storm in September 2012 and she’s since become a force to be reckoned with in the fashion realm. CR caught up with Botha as she embarks on another NYFW. Her advice to models kicking off their careers with these week’s shows? “Bring a good book—it can get you through the long queues at castings or through many hours backstage.”
RUNWAY RETREAT “If I get any free time in New York, I generally go to the High Line. It’s convenient because many of the castings are in that general area, and it’s a lovely stroll with beautiful views and gardens.”
THE FIRST TIME “My first runway show was actually at New Zealand Fashion Week (in 2008, I think it was). I was dropped from every show except one New Zealand-based brand called Salasai. It went rather smoothly, I was nervous as hell (inevitably), but I was in flat shoes and the runway was simple.”
MODEL BEHAVIOR “My mother gave me this advice at a young age and I can relate it to my modeling life as well as my everyday career: If you’re going to do something, then do it the best you can or don’t do it at all.”
BEAUTY AND THE BEST “I wish I had a beauty trick that I could claim as my own. I’m always switching products and trying new things because I have yet to find a product that really lives up to its advertising promise. Models are always caked with makeup, so when I’m not working, I don’t really wear any, except from an Avene tinted moisturizer. I can say that I religiously use Kevin Murphy’s Born Again conditioner on my fragile bleached hair. I go through about six bottles a year!”
OFF-DUTY LOOK “I’ve been told that my clothing is almost like luxurious hotel clothing, with my granny checkered pants and loafers.”
