LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The 20-year-old son of Anna Nicole Smith died suddenly in the Bahamas on Sunday, three days after the former Playboy Playmate gave birth to a girl, Smith's attorney said.

A statement from Howard K. Stern, Anna Nicole Smith's attorney, did not provide any details of Daniel Smith's death, and he declined to comment when contacted by Reuters.

"We have yet to learn the cause of death but do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor," Stern said in the statement. "Anna Nicole is absolutely devastated by the loss of her son. He was her pride and joy and an amazing human being."

Daniel Smith was in the Caribbean nation where his mother, 38, gave birth to a healthy girl on Thursday, Stern said. He appeared in "The Anna Nicole Show," a reality TV series that aired on the E! cable channel.

Smith has not said who fathered her second child.

Wow that is sad, his life hadn't even started yet. And I didn't know she had given birth. Gaining a child and then losing one within days omg I wouldn't know what to do. You can't even say congradulations.

Such cruel, cruel irony that she wouls have a child and her other one would die. It must be such a bittersweet time for her, my condolences to the family.

It will be very hard for Anna to celebrate the birth of her daughter and the death of her son around the same time every year

This is so horrific. I almost did not believe it when I 1st read it. I am actually a fan of Anna (yeah, I watched her show on E!) because she is so entertaining. I always loved Daniel and thought he was so sweet. He seemed nothing like her...very quiet and HATED to be in front of the cameras. I feel so sorry for her. This should be a happy time for her with her new baby, and she can't even enjoy it.

Anna and Daniel were very cute together. She was always doing silly things and he would laugh at her quietly but affectionately. I remember one episode of her show where she was on the road and she called him back at home. She was telling him that homework comes first and video games come later. Then she goes, "What did you have for dinner?" Daniel mumbled, "Pizza." And Anna replies, "What? Pig snot?!?!" It was so funny. I really hope that the media respects her during this time.
