Yoga, meditation and a healthy diet keep this 23 year-old model in balance

Exercise

It’s hard to have a regular fitness routine because I travel so much with my job, but my ideal week includes at least three or four yoga sessions. I also like to hit the gym and run. In summer I love being active outdoors.

If I’m really busy I try to squeeze in some yoga in my hotel room. I’ve been doing yoga for five years and Bikram for about three. I was teaching Bikram yoga, but now that I’ve moved to New York and am travelling a lot I don’t have time to teach.

Good-quality vitamins are a must when I’m travelling. I take a women’s multivitamin, fish and flax oil supplements, an immune-boosting supplement and a hair, skin and nail multivitamin.

Food

I love my morning smoothie – it’s a ritual for me. I put in lots of protein powders, berries, banana and almond or rice milk.

I am a health freak. I’m vegetarian and I love Japanese food. When I’m home I cook a proper meal, but it’s not always possible, so I try to take healthy snacks with me when I’m working. Today I took two bananas off my mum’s bench, and I’m glad I did because I didn’t get to eat anything else all day. I take mixed nuts with me everywhere too. I try not to get too hungry because then I overeat, so I try to snack throughout the day.

I love dark chocolate; I feel like I need to have something sweet after every meal. I love tea with milk and honey after a meal too. I like wine as well; my attitude is everything is okay in moderation.

These days I try to eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m full. I’ve tried so many diets and restricting myself never works. My weight has fluctuated over the years but now I think it’s important to surrender to being the right size for you. Meditation and yoga has really helped with that. I’m more healthy and curvy now and I’m loving it.

Beauty

My beauty regimen is pretty simple. I always take my make-up off after work and put on lots of moisturiser. I drink lots of water too – that’s so important.

I apply oil to my hair ends after washing it. I highlight it and styling damages it, so I use a conditioning treatment every few days. I massage oil on my body after showering and I love getting manicures and pedicures with my sister [model Jessica Hart].

I love a tomboy look and I like to wear jeans with Converse – I own about 15 pairs! I love feminine maxi dresses but I’ll always have a masculine edge. If you dress with confidence you can pull anything off. + Ashley Hart is an ambassador for Swisse Vitamins.

WHO: Model Jessica Hart's little sister Ashley Hart
WHAT: The fellow Australian model - good genes clearly run in the family - chose a monochromatic look complete with pale pink blouse, peachy skirt (with daring thigh-high slit!) and matching strappy sandals. An intricate turban and crimson clutch finished off her sultry ensemble.
WHERE: Hart was on-hand for the Melbourne Cup Day on November 1st in Melbourne, Australia.

LADIES Day at Flemington was all about romance.

The flirtation with bold colour at the Melbourne Cup was replaced with more demure blush tones, feathers and leather.

Model Ashley Hart was having a massage in the Swisse marquee as she sang the praises of young local designer Jack Loder, who made her pheasant headpiece.

"The gorgeous thing stayed up till 4am making this for me," she said.

MODEL Ashley Hart is heading back to the US tomorrow after a fun-filled week as co-host of the Swisse marquee.

Hart said a job had come up in Chicago so she and boyfriend Buck Palmer would have to leave Australia sooner than hoped.

Hart looked stunning in a Scanlan and Theodore dress.

I think she makes a better presenter than she does a model. I think that's probably where her future really lies - Australian TV personality/presenter.

Setting her Hart on health and wellbeing
MELBOURNE beauty Ashley Hart is leaving the world of fashion modelling.

Instead Hart (pictured), a model and bikram yoga instructor, wants the industry to adopt a holistic approach.

She wants to work with brands that promote health and wellbeing.

Her new interests also include yoga wear campaigns and health retreats that encourage the use of healthy models.

‘‘I have never felt more comfortable with the way I look,’’ Hart said.

‘‘But now I have found a niche in the modelling industry that believes in what I do.

‘‘I have finally discovered an area in the modelling world that makes me happy.’’

Hart was in Melbourne yesterday to shoot a commercial for health brand Swisse.

Based in LA, Hart will return to Melbourne in November to host a day spa on all four days of the Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington.
