I just watched Capote and he actually wanted Monroe to play Holly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. How absurd, she was absolutely perfect for that role and I cant imagine that bimbo Monroe getting it right.

I can't imagine monroe in the movie either. But maybe that is the type of girl he envisioned when he wrote the book. I have read the book, but I envisioned Audrey when I read it, but I can see why he would want a bombshell to play her instead of a skinny awkward girl.

I think that's a bit harsh calling Marilyn Monroe a bimbo. While she played many dumb blonde roles I don't think she was a dumb blonde herself. While Audrey Hepburn was great as Holly Golightly I think Marilyn Monroe would have been just as good. The Holly Golightly in Capote's novella is quite different to the one in the film. I think Marilyn Monroe would have been able to evoke that magic charm that Holly Golightly has and been able to portray the little girl lost aspect of Holly Golightly. Marilyn Monroe's Holly Golightly would certainly have been different to Hepburn's but I don't think it would necessarily have been awful.

yeah, I do think her a bimbo. My personal opinion, you have yours. Also in the movie, (which is factual) she had two famous paintings hanging upside down. This isnt a Monroe thread so I'm going to stop talking about her. Audrey brings class in that movie, anyone else that wasnt of her likeness would have been giving it a slightl cheap, vulgar tone.

I don't think that having paintings hanging upside down means she is dumb. I think that Holly Golightly was very eccentric and that hanging the paintings upside down is just one way of showing it. She also had a couch made out of a bathtub, and that is also quite odd. But I don't think it was supposed to be cause she is dumb.

Because I really think that Marilyn could have done it. I don't think it would have been nearly as good, but it would have been maybe more of what Truman Capote wanted.
If you've ever seen "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" I think Mr. Capote wanted Holly Golightly to be kinda the same gold digging type of girl. Who better to play a gold digger than Marilyn Monroe?

You're right. Capote's Holly Golightly was supposed to be a goldigger.
Audrey sugarcoated the original character. That Marylin Monroe was Capote's original choice makes sense to me. With Audrey the film became something else. Not Capote vision. It's a good film so I won't complain.

um, I meant in ACTUAL life monroe had it upside down, her very own ignorance, not the written character Holly. Besides, I think rather the movie would have been tacky if it went there with Monroe.

^ dbear you really should. Funny Face and Charade, along with Sabrina, are my favourite Audrey Hepburn movies. She is so charming in both films and I think they're both such fun and entertaining films.

My favorites of hers now include Wait Until Dark, To Catch A Thief and like always Roman Holiday, Sabrina and Charade. I guess that doesn't leave many does it?

I guess not. However, Audrey hepburn isn't in To Catch a Thief. I believe the gorgeous Grace Kelly was the star of that film.
