I think that's a bit harsh calling Marilyn Monroe a bimbo. While she played many dumb blonde roles I don't think she was a dumb blonde herself. While Audrey Hepburn was great as Holly Golightly I think Marilyn Monroe would have been just as good. The Holly Golightly in Capote's novella is quite different to the one in the film. I think Marilyn Monroe would have been able to evoke that magic charm that Holly Golightly has and been able to portray the little girl lost aspect of Holly Golightly. Marilyn Monroe's Holly Golightly would certainly have been different to Hepburn's but I don't think it would necessarily have been awful.kateelle said:I just watched Capote and he actually wanted Monroe to play Holly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. How absurd, she was absolutely perfect for that role and I cant imagine that bimbo Monroe getting it right.

I think that Holly Golightly was very eccentric and that hanging the paintings upside down is just one way of showing it. She also had a couch made out of a bathtub, and that is also quite odd. But I don't think it was supposed to be cause she is dumb.
Have you ever read the book Kateelle?
Because I really think that Marilyn could have done it. I don't think it would have been nearly as good, but it would have been maybe more of what Truman Capote wanted.
If you've ever seen "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" I think Mr. Capote wanted Holly Golightly to be kinda the same gold digging type of girl. Who better to play a gold digger than Marilyn Monroe?
Funny Face and Charade, along with Sabrina, are my favourite Audrey Hepburn movies. She is so charming in both films and I think they're both such fun and entertaining films.
However, Audrey hepburn isn't in To Catch a Thief. I believe the gorgeous Grace Kelly was the star of that film.
