Model Aymeline Valade Talks Saint Laurent—and Her “Lucky” Platinum Hair Color

SEPTEMBER 25, 2014 4:51 PM by CELIA ELLENBERG

Aymeline Valade was beaming backstage at Balmain this morning, an effect that went beyond makeup artist Tom Pecheux’s expert bronzing effort. “It’s at the top of the box office in France,” she effused of Saint Laurent, Bertrand Bonello’s new Yves Saint Laurent biopic that opened in Paris last night. In her first-ever film role, Valade plays Betty Catroux, the androgynous Saint Laurent muse who helped popularize the designer’s iconic Le Smoking in the seventies (and inspired the similarly styled tuxedo that Valade wore to the film’s premier in Cannes this summer).

Having taken a break from the runway to focus on the film, which started production last March, she didn’t take sharing the screen with stars Léa Seydoux and Gaspard Ulliel lightly, adopting a Method approach to her acting debut and bleaching her light brown hair not once, but eight times to get Catroux’s corn silk color just right. And while many of her modeling counterparts flip regularly between shades of dark chocolate and blonde for the runway, Valade has stayed the honey-flaxen course. “I’m keeping it until the American release for good luck,” she admitted. That happens next week at the New York Film Festival, although if #posivibes are what Valade is after, she should consider maintaining the dye job a bit longer; earlier this week, it was announced that the film has been chosen as France’s selection for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars—meaning she just might be onto something.

No doubt she is gorgeous, but I'm still not used to her being blonde (even though it's been a while now).

My love for Aymeline goes way beyond her stunning looks. It's that attitude and that charm that sets her apart imo. She comes off as very intelligent, witty and has this calm confidence about her which is so powerful. Especially loved her at Gaultier. That cute wink at the end of the runway was everything!

So glad to have her walk some shows this season, hope she gets some campaigns!

Aymeline is part of the cover story in Vogue Italia October 2014 and looks amazing!

Here's the backstage video.

How big is Aymeline in France? Is she considered a famous A-list actress there now, or is she just a model in a movie?

^ I think for now she's just a model in a movie here. But she's really good in "Saint Laurent", i saw it the other day and i liked her in it.

Yes I would say she's "just a model in a movie" for now. She's been on a lot of covers in the past few months, it's crazy. People who are not interested in fashion have most probably never heard of her. However, there are more chances she gets to be known for her role in the movie than in her career as a model.
