i have an old suede tod´s bag which fell into a puddle of exquisite olive oil (don´t ask me how i did it?)
i was so shocked that i didn´t do anything about it at first, i only shut the bag away not to be reminded of it...
do you think there is ANY possibilty of removing the dark spots or do you think it would be better to treat it with olive oil all over so that it is at least ONE colour (the actual colour was camel by the way)???

any help is appreciated!:heart::blush:

would you consider putting it in the washing machine and really distressing it?...that might work...other wise ...the all over olive oil is the only thing i can think of...

 I really want to know how you managed that !? I'm not sure i'd be wary of trying to remove the stains myself, i'm not sure of the best way to go about it, especially with it being suede as well  hopefully someone will be able to give some better advice than me :flower:

I agree with softgrey re the olive oil, but I'd hesitate to put a leather bag in the washing machine, I've never done it tho. If anyone else has, feel free to comment as I'd like to know how it worked out! Good luck tho!:flower:

i have no idea what happens to suede if you put it in the washing machine...could turn out interesting  but i think i´m too scared to do that!

i was considering going to a leather specialist but then i could imagine far too well his grumpy response in bavarian dialect..and i am afraid of that situation, too...

would be best though maybe?

how i did it...i had purchased a litre bottel of olive oil put it in a shopping bag and sort of tied it to my bicycle because i had no basket...it started to rain and i came home really tired and moody and didn´t manage to pull the shopping bag off the bike...it came off rapidly glided out of my hands the bottle crashed...all the time i had the suede bag over my SHOULDER but then i got to my knees trying to something and the suede bag slipped bumm in the oil puddle!!!

dramatic, no?

thank you anyway i´ll keep pondering a bit:heart:

The same thing happened to me with some camel suede shoes and the stain never disapeared....:(
I think you should just forget it.

I died the shoes black and i don´t like them anymore.

about washing...if its a soft bag..it will just get wrinkly and distressed and have a very boho feel...it it's a hard-sructured bag...then it might not work...

i washed a pair of frye boots to distress them...and it worked out great!!!
i even put them in the dryer for a little while...

Try putting talcum powder on the oil spots...it's usually something you should do right away, but it might still work. The powder absorbs the oil. Good luck!

Thanks Softgrey - I might try it with my moto bag replica :D

I would try to work with the oil and do a few tests first, also over the area that's already stained so you can see if it gets darker. If after drying the old area is darker, just be really careful when appyling the oil to the unstained area esp. where these two areas meet. I think if you're careful, it could turn out nicely! Good luck :flower:

Funny about the Bavarian dialect, I can imagine that as well!! Bist du Deutsch?

Because leather is so porous, it's really hellish to get things like oil out of it. I vote for dabbing the entire bag with oil to make it one color. I'd be too scared to put it in the washing machine.

thank you all for responding...i will tell you what i did if i ever decide...
and luxmode: ja, ja, ich bin deutsch...du nicht etwa auch???

Talcum powder only works on oil immediately after it's spilled on the garment or piece. It seems as if the oil has settled in the purse. I would take SoftGrey's advice. If you don't want to take it to a specialist.

Personally I would take it to a leather specialist...cleaner...person.

You could try salt, salt removes oil, but you really have to rub it in and it may only work right after the oil has gotten on an item.

Amara, I didn't know salt removed oil. Learned something new today. :flower:
