Bailey On Ford

I've ALWAYS suspected that his ' design skills were negligable , as Christopher Baily is a REAL designer , you've only to look at his women's and men's collections for BURBERRY PRORSUM , SO much less self indulgent than Menichetti's work , successful as it was .

Okay, this confuses me mainly because, even though I think Bailey makes nice clothes, I'm unclear as to why everyone speaks of him like he has this amazing design capability. Nice clothes yes, but he doesn't have talent for design coming out his rear end.

From FTV one only has to look at the shy and self deprecating way in which BAILEY makes an appearance at the end of his collections , so much the opposite of Ford .

So, does that make Bailey better?

I feel that we will find with Stephano Pilati's first real collections for YSL Rive Gauche where the REAL talent lies !!!

If Ford really did depend on a design team to produce the collections, adn simply got the ideas and gave the directives, then how is it at all possible that the clothes will be any better when one of the same people who designed with Ford is designing? In that case, why criticsize Ford for the designs, why not criticsize Pilati?

Sorry if I sound quite so hardheaded, but I don't understand how people can criticsize Ford's design capabilities if he was never the person actually designing the clothes but then go and trash him for the YSL collections. If the collections were so bad, doesn't the design team play a part in that? I don't get what makes anybody think that Pilati is so much better then Ford, if they worked on the collections at YSL under Ford together, is Ford really the only one to blame if the collections are bad, and if you really think that, why?

SPIKE NO offence BUT

Bailey's clothes SELL , nuff said .

Humility , I've always found to be an admirable attribute , and this I find is reflected in Bailey's demeanour AND his designs - he designs for the customer as a real person , NOT as a fantasy ideal .

I feel that Pilati had to design to FORD'S ' exacting standards ' of Hollywood ' eye candy ' , and without Tom ' breathing down his neck ' ( see the thread in The Fashion Daily ) I feel that PILATI will produce YSL collections MUCH more in keeping with the house philosophy , after all he has visited and studied at the archives at Avenue Marceau !!!

More than ' Monsieur Ford ' ever did !!!

And Christopher Bailey has a VERY nice ' rear end ' , thank you very much !!!

KIT :innocent: :innocent: :innocent:

None taken :flower:

In all fairness, so do Ford's. Gucci didn't get to where it is on his charm and looks alone. If you go into the Gucci stores, you see plenty of wearable, approachable clothes that could easily be incorporated into any womans' wardrobe, if she had the means of course. But hey, mabye we just share different tastes in clothing, which is perfectly fine!

And I've never seen Bailey's rear end, any pics? :P

SAY IT LIKE IT IS

TOM FORD is still being mourned at Gucci, but some people are being brave enough to speak their minds now that he's gone. "Tom Ford is a very, very difficult person to work for as he's very demanding," Burberry designer Christopher Bailey told students at a forum during Graduate Fashion Week last week. "He'd give you so much responsibility and then at the last minute say he hated the whole collection and give you two days to change it." (June 16 2004, AM)

Vogue.uk seems slower than FS in reporting the story :innocent:
plus i find it quite silly that they dont credit their fellow publication for
the article (talking of wwd which published the story first)

wwd gets a LOT of exclusives...it may be that vogue wasn't permitted to report the story right away or wasn't given the story at the same time... :innocent:

but its not the first time, they always do that.. quoting wwd stories without mentioning their scource :innocent:

bit tacky in my book :ninja:
