Balenciaga F/W 09.10 Paris

So I guess there is no menswear added to the collection?

Disappointing some of the members looking for more looks in the menswear f/w 09.10 thread -_-

love the satin skirts but not satin pants. like some coats and suit but hate 80s floral dresses with strong arms. all in all i am dissapointed :( booo

I don't see the disappointment. Sure it's not his usual futuristic, but nor was that FW07 collection of his..What do you expect when there is a recession, he's certainly not going to put something out that won't sell, In the end it's still a business.

Me neither. I LOVE this collection.:heart::heart: It is so French and chic. I did like the futuristic but this is a good relief. I love the draped jodphurs and skirts and the lace bandeaus. The collection is my favorite this season!

it's funny to see how some people are "excusing" ghesquiere for doing wearable and not the usual futuristic... I don't find this all that wearable!!
as much as I like this, I don't see yhewearability in the draped dressesnor the prints. and j don't think many women are ready for the shoulderpads again... I see as much "concept" here as in any other collection he has done before. only that this time the materials are a big more "familiar" and the shoes are more practicable...
am I really the only one who sees things that way?

Agreed. I think this is quite directional, though in a different vein as his futuristic collections. I don't see many women pulling off those suits or the dresses. It's very Dynasty but with a luxurious, darker off-beat sensibility.

I think people are forgetting that Ghesquiere has produced loads of ''wearable collections" that are still just as an important part of the Balenciaga canon as his space-age stuff.

Disappointed.

On second thought, looking through the HQs, the pieces are quite nice!!! I think I'm converted...

Although this collection has suffered several dismissals from me as one of the biggest disappointments of 09-10, I think I have also been converted by the immense HQ shots.
The pieces that are half draped and half black jacket are fantastic.
I wish some of those dresses weren't in print as so the amazing construction was more apparent. I think it'd be clearer if you were face to face with them.
Some of the fabrics, especially that blue one with the net pattern with the sheen, are immense.
The nouveau style jewellery is also beautiful and fit so well in with the pieces.

I'm giving Ghesquire the benefit of the doubt because I love him so.

I have a theory about the eyebrows: Balenciaga liked his models blank and expressionless - eyebrows show quite a lot of expression - hence get rid of them.
