Balenciaga F/W 2016.17 Paris

oh god....it's awful

i think this brand is going to die :( and i love(d) it so much

I am sort of undecided. On a positive note, I really like the juxtaposition of the sport-y puffer jackets and the sequined pieces. Also the necklines and most of the outerwear is stunning and a great proposition. On another note, half of it is rather ugly and the tailoring is a failled attempt imo. I guess I will wait for one more season to make up my mind, but this pairing might just work.

Not bad at all. I love the opening looks and the looks towards the end are kinda cute.

Still I prefer Wang's and obviously Nicolas' Balenciaga.

I'm not even than angry because it looks exactly how you would expect it to be.

Why is everyone so obsessed with Lotta Volkova? There Is nothing fresh in her styling at all!

Standard oversized sh*t and some flowers, the styling elevates it a bit. Not good.

The coats and jackets are fine but the rest can be dumped in the "hideous dress" thread.

There are way too many brands in limbo at the moment due to the unexpected exits (and dismissals) last year.

This just looks like a mush-mash of Nicolas' work circa '00s.

Akris and Max Mara's imaginary strange auntie.
I just don't believe such person exist. It looks so off.

It's what I expected, aside from a few looks I don't really like it that much.

It leaves me cold...
In a way, i don't really care about Balenciaga anymore. I stopped buying it when Nicolas left and somehow i wanted for them to succeed without him and with a powerful creative force but this is...i don't know, this is what is hot in the fashion community today.
It could have been a Vetements show actually but the name Balenciaga add more glamour to it.

It's a bit cliché, like Vetements. The juxtaposition of high and low, streetwear and "couture", casual and formal is quite expected...so the whole show looks like a rehash.

Maybe the thing that bother me (other than the lack of diversity) is the total lack of interest on the body.
Balenciaga was about volumes but mostly about the body and he was working around the body. Here (like at Dior by Raf), it's pure aesthetic and it doesn't have any aknowledge for the woman's body. All i see is volumes and the idea of finding a balance to create a silhouette that is at the end quite akward (flat chest).

I'm curious to see how everything will evolve with this new designer even if i'm quite indifferent to Balenciaga.

This was rather conflicting, it reminded me of what I use to enjoy about Vetements. There's a real sensible aspect that I liked, a lot of what is presented is genuinely wearable and paying homage to Balenciaga. The off the body and technical designs. Looks 15 -28, were pretty interesting and nods to the house in some aspect. Also, there's a voice again. But it still lacks that complete vision or feeling Balenciaga once in fact carried.

All I can say is that he seems to be overwhelmed by the archives. I can see references to Ghesquiere, Wang and Cristobal of course, but they're so heavy-handed and not interesting at all. That first look was good, but then it went for that awful post-soviet-lotta-volkova-typical-sh*tty-styling route.

I don't think it's as bad as Lanvin or Dior, but it's not good at all.

Surely better than Wang's collections. I'm not completely into it ,but let's give him some time!
