Balenciaga Mens S/S 2018 Paris

Ok...soviet ex-junkie dad comes back home after rehab. He says he´s clean; but from his look you can tell he is lying.

Great idea for a film...horrible idea for a Balenciaga collection.

Ugh these clothes are just so miserable. I'm totally fine with "wearable" clothes, but give me a reason to believe that the wearable clothes you design are worthy of the price tag that ultimately will be hanging from these garments in the shops. Demna clearly likes creating clothes that look like the real version of whatever it was he was referencing (North Face, Patagonia, Champion, Levi's, etc. etc. etc.), but then what purpose do these clothes serve, if there's an original item out there for a fraction of the cost?

My other problem with Demna is that, aside from the clothes coming across as items that already exist, he doesn't even bother to elevate them in any way with casting, hair and makeup, styling, and show production. He happily is showing these things in exactly the same way you would find the original items out on the streets on any given day. It was the same problem I had with a lot of Hedi's work at Saint Laurent - fine - if you're going to do straight vintage knock-offs, then present them in a way that feels fresh, interesting and new...but throwing them on a grungy, sulky teenager is the most expected thing you could do. So why bother?

I need some eye bleach. This is seriously one of the worst collections I've ever seen.

How truely awful.
There's literally not a single ounce of creativity or effort put into this.

the second look of the guy in spectacles is just weird, what s the reason to buy something like that from Balenciaga Paris?

i do however think that Hedi at least makes the `knock-offs` look interesting, expensive and desirable, but this??!!:shock::shock:

It could be, maybe, Vetements... but as a Balenciaga menswear it is something what i can't describe, if you see the Looks, there are no Details, it all fit bad, not tailored, the Jeans, this horrible jackets, the belts, the Shirts, i , sincerely, don't know if he really wanted ( or NEEDED) to make a Part II because Part I was bad enough.
BAd. simply bad. Look like somebody did it only because he must send on the runway xx Looks and he has no idea how they must look like and no idea, no Inspiration, so take all in one, mix and com'on, the People will like it because of Designers Name... still like, how Long will they like? One season more?
It is not Vetements, it is Balenciaga, but this collection is bad to be Vetements too.

:lol: So true!! I must admit that I quite liked the previous collection, but this is one just downright lazy. It literally looked like a stylist raided a slew of vintage shops. Michele follows a same pattern, but with each of his items you can tell (purely by looking at it) that it's a luxury item. That luxury edge, I feel, is important to maintain!

Also, maybe it's time to leave this hoodie, puffa, anorak obsession behind now! I like them myself, but it's becoming old pretty fast.

I love that he's celebrating fathers here. And not fathers-the-supermodels, but everyday fathers who are superheroes to their kids. The buttoned up shirts, jeans, oversized everything clothes, casting, and kids in models' arms just help convey that. I found it all very touching actually. Some might argue that it's all superficial and contrived (this is fashion we're talking about), but it worked for me. I can't remember another collection presentation that resonated so much with me.

With that said, I wouldn't buy a single piece from this.

The kids had the best clothes...
There's nothing in terms of fit or items that is really interestying about it.
A very unfortunate collection.
I bet, the margin at Balenciaga must be insane.

What i hate the most is the fact that nothing is elevated in this. I mean, we know the shirts are in polyester and acrylic. We know that the jackets are msotly polyester with a little bit of wool. And the rest is maybe cotton or whatever.

I would have more respect for it if it was elevated in terms of fabrics. A cashmere tracksuit for example.

Yepp! Me too, the previous, Part I, lol, was not good but it was not so bad as this one. Do you see the details of the looks? There are no luxury at all, it all looks like a cheap stuff from vintage second hand shop, did he got the inspiration there? Why in summer the fathers must wear winter clothes? Everytime this puffers, please,it is menswear for next summer, who will wear puffers and similar jackets when outside is sun, maybe see or ocean and 35 degrees above zero? Why kids must shame walking on the street with dads whos looks like, right, back from rehab or before the rehab,:lol::lol: or as they are sleeping under the bridges? this horrible bags... are they for empty bottles? But really,it's tasteless, and all this horror for xxx0 euro-dollars-pounds???
Alessandro Michele can be quirky, maybe he repeat successful pieces but every single item is luxurios, from simple socks till crocodile bag. And when you see Michele's Gucci offers there are many for every taste but Demna's Balenciaga is same and same and this time it is really Too Much.
Send on the runway collection with this kind of clothes it is not a very good idea and it is a bad taste, it is more that post- or simply soviet rehab. If you see this kind of clothes on the street you know that the persons maybe don't have choices and possibilities to buy something what they would like to wear... and Demna simply remake it for runway, for Balenciaga? In my opinion he doesn't care or want see if also this kind of collection the jornalists and buyers (and customers) will like?
And the kids? It is not new, recently, few years here, Dolce and Gabbana did it for Mother day but there was again this Luxury and the Show was beautiful, maybe clothes were not perfect but all together was nice. Here, in Balenciaga "Show" it is not.
I will be not surpised if he will leave Balenciaga next year. I don't think that the buyers will order this kind of clothes for the retailers. It is the time for him to search the inspirations somewhere else but not only on the strees or under the bridges... First same and same with Vetements and now this horrible Balenciaga.

^^
Having a puffer jacket in a Spring Summer collection is not stupid from a business point of view. Remember that Balenciaga is sold worldwide and in some countries, our summer is their winter.
Plus, this collection will be on sale at a time when people will think about buying items for the F/W season.

I don't think Demna will be out soon. The hype around Balenciaga is not going to fade anytime soon and while it may not appeal to a classic fashion/luxury customer, it will appeal to the kids. Those are the ones who are going to buy 300$ hoodie.
His womenswear on the other hand appeal to a larger audience. This is really normcore-tumblr-instagram ready.

It will be interesting to see how all of this will evolve. I think that the 90's fashion obsession will die in maybe 2 years and maybe fashion will look at the early to mid 00's for inspiration.

Fair enough, he could just be feeding into the consumerist need to always be preoccupied with the next season. Having traveled to countries where they're a season ahead (or behind, whichever way you look at it), I can certainly say that that I've never seen a winter collection in stores in summer. I don't think Australia for instance will already have these items in stock by September.

I agree with you about the 90's obsession fading out soon. What I wonder then, why wouldn't Demna, as the progressive trailblazer that he thinks himself to be, want to look ahead and tap into a different aesthetic then? Why wait for the winds of fashion to change before you change? That's my problem with his Balenciaga. It's far too populist and not very directional, exclusive, nor original. Love or hate Michele, nobody does quirk like him. And he's secured a spot for himself in the annals of history with such a short tenure. With Gucci too, it will be interesting to see how they'll eveolve.
