Here and there, in the usual snoozefest of oversized everything, there are some interesting looks, where Demna seems to be more in control of the silhouettes. But the impression is that the guy has kind of given up and his creativity can afford to be on repeat as long as the bottom line holds up. I'm just wondering what trick, if any, he will pull out of the hat this July, with his couture debut.
In passing, it dawned on me that he really is NOT a favourite of celebrities, he hardly ever dresses actresses for the red carpet, which for a house steeped in evening wear like Balenciaga, is kind of a liability.

ps: despite his alliance with Michele and the GG logo, he keeps producing some of the vilest bags in the market.

In a saturated industry full of mediocre talent (if I’m being particularly generous) fuelled only by hype of the mega-conglomerate machine— and how much more conglomerate can you get with this Gucci x Balenciaga merge, Demna still showcases a solid display of talent and vision after all: Even if it’s in unapologetic trolling and turning fashion into a farce. I still wouldn’t touch a lick of these kinds of fashions, but there’s no denying that he is leading where all others now mindlessly follow.

The blatant dragging of this era’s shallowness and creative-bankruptcy with “Your Ad Here” on a hoodie alone deserves and is worthy of the best of the worst era in fashion. Unlike the joke of Raf x Prada, Demna isn’t ashamed/afraid of being the leader of The Emperor’s New Clothes. I can’t figure if that’s pure arrogance on his part— or pure ingenuity.

The yellow dress is fabulous!
It seems like except for Bottega Veneta (that is still just at the beginning of it momentum), KERING brands are going through some creative dead end...

My critic will be the same as for the others, I feel like the focus was too much on pouring an insane amount of products and not creating meaningful fashion propositions. It seems like his first 2 collections will remain the creative peak because we are still seeing variations of the same things.
At YSL, it felt like Vaccarello has reached it limits and went to Chanel for inspirations. Because somehow fashion based on products kinda limits the marche de manœuvre.
And of course Gucci, Michele can always rely on Tom Ford when there’s nothing else new to add.

I haven’t been in a Balenciaga store in a while. I think the last thing I bought from them was the knife kitten mules and it seems like nothing is changing.

I’m excited for the Couture because I think Demna has been clever at using Couture techniques in casual wear (his infamous down jackets) but I hope that he will use Couture as a way to better himself and really go out with his creativity. If his contribution to Couture is just revisiting the archives, I’ll be disappointed.

I think clients are ready for something exciting...There’s no need for one other red carpet oriented operation or some design project.

It's okay Mr. Balenciaga, this is just a phase. If you can survived A. Wang era, you can survive Demna era too.

Between this and Vêtements, what's the difference?

That red mermaid dress is such an insult to the fabulous original dress. This version looks like he attached a plastic dish cover to the dress.

By now I'm just craving something (anything!) different from usual, I guess he really is saving his new ideas for couture, otherwise the same old lousy and ironic merch with 4 nice puffers carrying all the weight, those being the only items that faintly reference the work of the founder.

The final dress is so heavy handed it looks like it was made by a couch upholsterer, not an atelier.

@Phuel I can honestly say you heavily influenced my opinion on DG. I had to take a step back from my initial reaction and overall disregard for his work. It’s growing on me. I feel like he is having a Steven Sprouse or Moschino moment where is flipping off the industry at large. There is beauty in the imperfect. I honestly applaud his efforts here.

It seems like he added the bestsellers from the past seasons and called this a "new" collection. There is no doubt he is better than Wang, but I still feel the name "Balenciaga" deserve better than hype brand. He is just pushing this brand to the mass market and eventually tarnishing its heritage.

You know I kinda agree it could be low key genius. It just sucks that Balenciaga has to be the vessel for this idea of trolling everyone. There's something funny/scary about getting people to throw money at Kering for ratty clothes. I wouldn't even consider this to be anti-fashion. It really is straight up trolling. And it works...
