And, they are the INVENTORS of the ballet flat...originally they only made actuall ballet/dance shoes until Bridgit Bardot approached them and asked them to make a ballet/dance shoe that could actually be work in the street.

They created the ballet flat for her and they became a part of her signature look... I never knew this, actually, until a couple of months ago...it's a nice history behind the shoe, non?

Anyone here know the quality of London Sole's flats? They have so many cute colors but I don't want to spend $165 on something that's sh*tty quality.

They are good quality, but I prefer the shape of Repetto and the materials of Pretty Ballerinas. PB have leather lining and comes with a dust bag - I had a little more luxurious feeling when I received them than when I received my French Sole/London Sole. And Repetto has the advantage of being "real" ballet shoes....

I'm so horrified by these "slippers" that I had to post them here. Also, I think a few people here mentioned purchasing these as ballet flats...um, why I am not sure.

The grade of leather on these things is like...well, like foil. Feels like an extremely cheap leather. I'm assuming this is to offer the shoe some sort of "pliability" so that the shoe can fold. But, I'm positive she could've used a more supple, substantial, QUALITY grade of leather and maintained the shoes ability to "fold".

Also, if I wanted a pair of house shoes, I would've bought house shoes. I would seriously be embarassed to leave the house with these things on. And for 126 dollars? C'mon....I mean really.

And the stitching around the "shoe"...words cannot express my disdain. Of course I'm sending them back FIRST THING TOMORROW. I'm purchasing these instead:

If I were interested in "house shoes", I would've bought the warm and fuzzy kind.


Then again, she does advertise them as "London SLIPPERS". I should've paid attention...sigh. Another pair of Repettos should arrive tomorrow afternoon...pics to come.

I would definitely buy these Repettos by CDG over Lanvins...at Colette Paris, of course.

The Comme des Garcons Repetto's are gorgeous.. reminds me of this seasons Marc Jacobs flats but imo the CDG ones are cooler..

Hmm... CDG + Repetto sounds good, but I don't like the studs.

I'm happy, soon it's dry and warm enough to wear ballet flats!

I have a dilemma though. I only like basic black ballet flats (a little bow is ok), and I have two. The other pair are French Soles, but they are a little bit worn as I used them the whole last summer and they weren't too good to be worn outside. My other pair is a brand new pair of leather ballet flats from L.K Bennett. I am going to go and add a sole to protect the leather on the soles, and I am going to make spritz them with the "water resistance" spray. Is there anything else I could do to ensure they stay looking good?

My dilemma is that I adore ballet flats - especially these new from L.K Bennett - but I am not sure whether it is wise to wear them outside. If you have good quality but quite expensive ballet flats, do you wear them as your every day shoes outside? I fear they get torn and worn too easily... should I save my more expensive ballet flats to parties and finer events, and purchase a cheap pair to wear every day? Or do you have any tips on how to revive my French Soles?

Then, my final question. I bought a pair of leopard print ballet flats last summer - should I sell them? Or are they too tacky?

In the 1950s, they were a popular alternative to spindly high heels; designers of calf-length full skirts showed their fashions with ballet slippers made by Capezio. At the time, such shoes were not commercially available. But today many manufacturers produce variations of the ballet flat. Not to be outdone, a carriage horse in Central Park showed off its own spring shoes: hooves painted with purple glitter.

Hmm... CDG + Repetto sounds good, but I don't like the studs.

I don't like them and I think they look lazy...the best they could come up with was to put some studs on the toe of the flat? I'm all for irony, but I think this was just laziness... at least make an effort to be brilliant and original.

I was thinking the exact same thing but I didn't want to seem too cantakerous...

That's par for the course with the NY Times. They tend to be very late in reporting things OR they "misreport" and provide inaccurate data...but that's another story for another site, i suppose.

I don't think ballet flats are a trend - they are a classic.
