Balmain S/S 2013 Paris

I just love this collection, something was new and old but so refreshing.

Very little to love here. Maybe the belts?
The rest is dated by 20-30 years and tacky. Disgusting knitted dresses, kinda remind me of what Givenchy had a couple years ago, but at Givenchy they did the look perfectly, here it just looks sloppy and tacky.
Wasn't a fan of Decarnin's last couple collections, but even those messes were superior to this by far. :(

My absolute favorite part of the whole collection were the impeccable details, seen on the nude-colored dress Magdalena was wearing and the multi-colored number Kasia was wearing. I don't know how they could have been constructed, but the finished product was nothing short of amazing! So Couture!

I do have to admit that some looks were too exaggerated to the point that it looked tacky. Although the current Balmain aesthetic is very rock and roll, I feel that it could have been interpreted in a very different and unique way.

I'm not totally disappointed with the collection, but I can't say I loved it.

How is possible?

I really hate the shoulder pads on some of the outfits! They are so literal 90's. I wish he was more innovative in working with them rather than making them look like an afterthought. I did like the shoulder pads on the jeans top and some of the jackets though. As for the details, they were very eye watering as usual. I also like some of the prints. I wish he would find a less predictable and more personal direction to take the brand in though. Right now, to me, it looks simply looks like a cleaner version of Decarin's work.

It's Sue Ellen Crandell's debut collection for General Apparel West  I don't know.. Shoulders aside some of this would be good as separates. I don't mind a retro vibe too much, love the detailing on most of the pieces.

The detailing is truly beautiful, and I love the shoes, but those shoulder pads? Nooooooooo.

I don't think we're quite ready for those huge shoulder pads yet. I know this is where we're heading but it's just too early :innocent:

I love the clothes except these shoulder pads clothing. Seriously, shoulder pads? Gross.

My favorite Parisian collection this season next to Balenciaga. The detail on some of these pieces is insane. And I for one love the exaggerated shoulders! :D

I love what he's bringing to Balmain.

After further reflection, this has become one of my top 5 shows so far in Paris! I like how trashy and almost vulgar it is, but at the same time the details are so insanely sublime and I find it wonderful how you can see all the time that has gone into the craftsmanship of a dress. It's a great paradox if you ask me
