Bape clothing

Can't beat this. 2 Kids were on a tour over at parsons. Both had matching white multicolored bathing ape hoodies, bathing ape tshirt, bathing ape jeans, bathing ape shoes and bathing ape camo backpacks. Both of them, same exact pieces head to toe.

I cringed at the thought they would be going into design.

Yeah, I would too.

their T shirts are okay but those camoflaged hoodies are so Disgusting!!!!!! I really don't understand why would someone wanna spend that much money on it.
nearly all hk guys that i know wear BAPE

I still like BAPE , but it's too saturated now , and a lot of fakes are flooding the market too because of the demand , move on.

The story of those kids dressed head to toe makes me laugh , that is exactly the kind of think Nigo would hate.

It's interesting how you say that, I agree...Nigo would probably look down on those kids severely. Yet Bape kind of has an 'old boys club' mentality to it...when you look at Nigo's own clique, including the Teriyaki Boyz but also their American counterparts who are in with Nigo such as Jay-Z, Pharrell, Swizz Beatz...Nigo willingly dresses them head to toe in his own clothes and adores them for it. Yet when it comes to the mass consumers, he can't stand it. Interesting dichotomy.

Yet there is something to be said about 'flair,' even if the designs themselves are noticeably unremarkable...with all the Pharrell clones decked out in diamond hoodies and ice cream shirts, none of them can really match the originator. And in this sense I can understand the kind of hate one would have towards these consumers...every item of clothing no matter what it is really requires the right person to carry it off. If it doesn't work, then it just makes your clothes look bad.

I think you're all missing the point. I guess you can hate Bape as a whole but Nigo is an extremly smart, dare I say even brilliant, man. What is happening now (guys decked in head-to-toe Bape ensembles or waiting hours for a $300 hoodie to be realeased) I'm pretty sure Nigo wouldn't approve of. Just because a bunch of unoriginal ***es pick up on Bape to try to fit in or attempt at being original, eventhough in the end they come out as exact clones of one another I don't think that should affect the integrity of the line (the little bit that it does have). I must agree that most things from the label are overpriced pieces of trash but people still buy it. I guess I'm much more of a fan of Nigo than of the Bape label (Yea, I think that's exactly it) . I remember reading an interview where he said that he tries to spend as much money as he can because seeing himself without any would make him work twice as hard. That's admirable.

Am I the only one thats never heard of Bape..?

It's kind of like the abercrombie of china?

I dont know what any of those name actually mean. Is there anywhere where I can see any of this stuff? I'm just curious what everyone is talking about.

(Hope this wasn't answered earlier, but) Is Bape related to A Bathing Ape...?

They're the same thing, Bape is just the convenient shorthand for A Bathing Ape.

Hm, I agree that Bathing Ape (or shortly Bape) doesn't really aim to quality of garments. And I agree that it's mostly a marketing thing and that it's most interesting face is it's business success. Anyway I always felt a big interest in Nigo and all his creations. He created a sense of mistery around his brand. I can understand that you guys living in japan or other parts can feel annoyed by Bape, after more than 10 years. But for me, living in Italy, almost in Slovenia, Bape is still something fascinating. And when I visited Japan, the bape stores were a must-see for me.
From some articles:
"Nigo expertly cultivated his “underground” reputation by applying an age-old marketing tactic: limited editions. What has made his products so attractive and desired has been their inaccessibility - especially in Japan, where 24-hr opened shops ensure that you can always get what you want. His hard-to-find products draw famously long lines to BAPE's Tokyo outlets, which themselves are hard-to-find, tucked into cul-de-sacs and often bearing no shop signs other than “Nowhere Ltd.”, the name of Nigo's corporation, minutely lettered somewhere on the glass. All this in Tokyo's maze of oversized and often meaningless neons. Devotees are usually subjected to limits on the number of pieces they can buy."
"The name A Bathing Ape is from the Japanese expression "to bathe in lukewarm water" (Nuruma yu ni tsukaru), and it's a comment on Tokyo youths today. Nigo says that they are very shallow, aimless, not independent-minded, taking things for granted, too comfortable. Like bathing in lukewarm water. It's rather ironic for them to be wearing his clothing."
Anyway Nigo's relationship with the music scene is very old. For example, if you take a look at the booklet of the first Dj Shadow's album, Endtroducing (1996), you can see that Nigo is mentioned as first in the "Thank you" list, as one of Shadow's best friends. Beastie Boys were wearing Bape years b4 the Neptunes and I believe that even Pharrell started wearing Bape because he felt it fresh. Of course, after that their relationship became a business affair.
Nigo took simian images of the 1968 sci-fi classic film Planet of the Apes and mixed them with hip-hop-inspired fashions and camouflage motifs.
Baby Milo is one of the characters. It's a baby monkey and also the name of a Bape line. Kaws is a NY graffiti artist. He recently collaborated with Nigo at designing the new collections.
I'm sorry, but I don't agree about recommending to Guessgirl96 wearing Bape Stas, the sneakers, with a mini skirt. I think that Bape Stas just look ugly (especially on girls) when you don't wear at least a bit baggy LONG jeans. And, my God... why no socks?! The hoody is ok.:D

I actually like those leopard spotted sneakers. ^

Hahaha BAPE was such a big thing like 2 years ago in HK all the guys were wearing it thinking they were pimpin it =D Actually, I can't say much because my bf used to wear some BAPE but I converted him =)
It's soooo overpriced I think. I still cringe when some of my friends unknowingly buy fake BAPE shoes off Ebay.

Thank you for your input jevna! I agree (for the most part) with everything you said.:flower:

Here's the article that sparked my fascination for Nigo. (includes pictures)

pigmag.com - Nigo (English)

Nigo is talking about his friend Jonio in this article. They opened the first Nowhere shop together. I think it is Jun Takahashi.
And I'm also afraid that that famous band...Cornelias... is no else than Cornelius, the famous jp electronic artist. Probably a mistake again... You can read in the article: "Shin was good mates with Kuyamada, the lead singer of a famous band called Cornelias." In fact, Cornelius' real name is Keigo Oyamada... They sound similar...
Am I wrong?
Anyway it proves that in 90's there was a group of creative people really into Planet of the Apes... The name Cornelius is taken from that film.
