It started to really catch on in the past year in the U.S. because of Pharrell always wearing their stuff. I still see people in Hong Kong wearing it...

Would love to read the interview. I find it interesting however talking about a sheep mentality and he has stacks of LV luggage?

Either way, I don't understand how he can have that much money when BAPE is not that big? Whatever. I don't find anything that special in their clothes thus far.

I guess it's big enough if he had a house built from scratch in one of the most expensive areas of Tokyo. If you can get your hands on the current Vman magazine you can read the interview there.

GOOD NEWS ... BAPE is opening on Green st. iN SOHO NEXT FRI :)

You sure about that? Last I heard from someone who walked by the space like 2 days ago it was still under construction...

I also heard their sneakers won't be sold at the NYC store because Nike won't let them...which is ironic considering Nike is now showing Bape influences in some of their sneakers (see: Camo AF1) instead of the other way around which was always the case. That kinda sucks because I'd like to see Bapestas go for retail in the States instead of the r*pe prices they charge on ebay and U.S.-based online stores like Vintagekicks. However it would be nice if they had the Bathing Ape X Adidas sneakers for sale though, I've been dying to get my hands on a pair of those, esp. the grey/black snake ones and the camo skull shoe.

Since BAPE's popularity is only based on its 'hard-to-get' factor (designwise you have to admit it's very poor), I wonder if its NYC shop will not be the begin of the end.

BAPE, the new Von Dutch?

Its defintely already the new Von Dutch..
you should see all the people on the street that wear it in hk....
you can't walk for 10 minutes without spotting something like 17 bape shirts.. i

hey raijin what's up, you from Hong Kong? Me too...but I'm going to school in Michigan right now.

I think Bathing Ape is more interesting than Von Dutch...although it's definitely approaching VD levels of over-saturation in the market, ever since Pharrell introduced it to the States and everyone is hyping up the Bapestas and that camo hoodie. The quality of the clothes is poor (a bape busy works t-shirt i bought developed a hole after a few months of wear, so i just cut it up ), and definitely doesn't justify the price. There's definitely better young designers in Japan that aren't getting nearly as much credit as Nigo, which sucks because I don't really consider Nigo a fashion icon at all, more of a fad (although I give him credit for staying in the game this long). He's getting all the attention just because Bape is currently being associated with the exclusive circle of celebrities and urban royalty.

Hey, Fade to Black -

I should have posted this a while back, but tfs went down.

I was actually born in California, but I spend a lot of my time in asia.
My dad grew up in Hong Kong and he now lives there again.
I love spending time in hk, I feel more at home there than here in cali, haha.

It's right across Kirna Zabete, where Tahen used to be.
