As the ad recession takes the oomph out of the publishing industry, Sports Illustrated is betting it can turn its iconic swimsuit edition into a souped-up marketing machine.
In addition, a Southwest Airlines jet emblazoned with an image of swimsuit model Bar Refaeli will whisk VIPs to a launch party in Las Vegas this week. And, as part of a days-long Vegas celebration, stunt drivers sponsored by Nissan Motor will race cars on a lot adjacent to the Luxor hotel, with swimsuit models as their passengers.
To piggyback on the unveiling of this year's swimsuit issue, the Southwest plane with the image of Ms. Refaeli will be unveiled this week at New York's LaGuardia Airport and will ferry about 100 people, including two dozen models, to Las Vegas. After that, the airline plans to use the Boeing 737, dubbed SI One, on regular routes for the next two months.

I sort of hate this cover simply because of the briefs being BARELY on. It's SI taking cheapness one step too far. I was hoping they would pull it back this year but unfortunately not. The cover itself ( ignoring the briefs part) is actually very nice though!
Still, it's cool she has the cover. I'm happy for her! xx

Leonardo DiCaprio's rallying cry seems to have been heard.
The actor's off-again, on-again main squeeze, Bar Refaeli, is next month's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover girl, according to a big ol' billboard in Manhattan.
The 23-year-old Israeli model broke out of the pack after languishing on the inside of the magazine's most buzzed-about installment for the past two years.
SI's cover, featuring Refaeli and her tan lines in a multicolored string bikini next to the tease line "Bikinis or nothing," was first unveiled during tonight's episode of the Late Show With David Letterman, which tapes at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, right across the street from the revealing billboard.
And in related news, authorities are responding to reports of a six-car collision across the street from the Ed Sullivan Theater.

Gorgeous! Thanks for the vid!
I'm so happy to see Bar was chosen as the cover model for this year's SI swimsuit issue! She has a healthy figure with great natural curves, and the cover shot is a bit racy, but still quite gorgeous to behold.
