i am very interested in being a dresser at fashion shows, does anyone know how to get involved with this, or know of anyone who does internships for this? if so, could u let me know. thank you very mcuh!

you should contact the local fashion week producers in your area and ask to participate as a dresser when the shows start..
you dont need special skills, over here its usually fashion school kids that work as dressers during the shows for free.. just contact the local organisers and get some feedback straight from them

good luck and welcome to tFS :flower:

use web search or yellow pages according to your location ;)

being a dresser isnt very exciting but its good if you're dressing somebody you like, if u know what i mean ;)

at my last uni we were all made to dress at a show and it was ok except i got this really bitchy french girl who thought she was fantastic and i kept touching her boob accidently when putting her top on and she kept saying i was doing it on purpose
yea right, more like i was distracted by the hot guys standing next to you

in paris i think there is a dressing company because during paris fashion week some dressers asked who i was because they said theyd seen me at every show

is there an LA fashion week?
are you prepared to travel to LA or NY to become a dresser?

in the summer time i can definitely get to LA at any time and I just might be able to go to NY. wow NY would be amazing! but from now until this semester of school ends ill only be able to get to LA at certain times. =/

so try to network LA fashionweek and start from there, search fashion week organisers/fashion show production & producers, good luck

from my personal experience dressing is a horrible job (we had to do it as part of our course at graduate fashion week). arsey models who just stand there and expect you to do EVERYTHING, seriously, sweaty cramped conditions, being shouted at by the organizers and designers, hah but thats just my opinion!

.. said it wannadisco, most people hate to assist in dressing for shows and i wouldnt blame them..
worst of all is after the show, when there are clothes, shoes and accessories thrown all over backstage and most dressers are vanished..

designer assistant team need to deal with all the utter mess themselves..

reallly. good to know. well is there anything interesting and fun to do backstage at fashion shows? at fidm they said they have a major that is for people to work backstage at fashion shows, photoshoots, and tv filmings. what else would one do in the back at fashion shows then? what would u think i should get an internship for then if i were to get into that major. (the school wasnt able to help me out)

Believe it or not ... we do have a pretty decent fashion week in L.A. put on by Mercedes Benz. They've been doing it for about 4 years now ... same producers that do 7th on Sixth in Bryant Park in NY. It's in Smashbox studios and they add a bunch of tents, too. F/W 06/07 fashion week should be sometime in March or 2006 and then for S/S 2007 in October. Summer is not the time of any fashion weeks that I know of ... spring, fall and early winter for the resort collections is more common. You might try contacting some of the regular designers that show in L.A. (many of them are local) and see if they need help in March.

Here's a link to the last L.A. Fashion week. http://www.mercedesbenzfashionweek.com/spring2006/home.html
