Being a dresser

when you're there ask their business cards or bring your resume in case you end up talking to someone who could offer you an internship!

also, bring something to read...sometimes there are down periods of boredom...

How to become a dresser

Hey tFS,
After talking to my brother who is a cinematographer I realised that being a dresser or part of a wardrobe crew might be the best bet for me right now. How would I go about doing that? How do I become a dresser for fashion shows? Who should I contact? - SS

Work Experience at fashion weeks....

...i think its intern in usa but anyway has anyone had work experience behind the scenes at a fashion week?
I read it somewhere that you can and you just dress models etc but i cant find where i read it from:angry: .
Does anyone know how i could go about finding out about this?
great if you could help!

Talked to several dressers backstage while I was at NY Fashion Week. Even interviewed one. I'll type out a transcript later for my blog. Here's a shot I got of one guy chillin' backstage before "first looks."

Notice that he's dresses comfortably.

At the Nicole Miller show the dressers were all girls who worked for Nicole. They were dressed immaculately in clothes from her previous collections (but most wore flat shoes). A really cute group!

Fashion Show Dressers?

Does anybody know anything about how to get involved in this?

I am currently a fashion merchandising student at the Academy of Art University. AAU is the only school to show at NY fashion week so I was hoping I would possibly be able to help out at the show, doing whatever (dressing, for example). But after some inquiring I found out the school doesn't let students intern, or help out, or whatever you want to call it. I guess they hire professional groups that do this type of thing (dressing). One of my instructors mentioned a company/group called Audrey's Angels...or at least that's what I thought she said, but I have googled and can't find anything.

I am looking for any opportunity to help out at something like NY fashion week. I plan on applying through IMG who puts on fashion week and hires volunteers, but I can imagine it's pretty competitive.

Any thoughts, ideas, or steers in the right direction would be great.

You will need to know someone in the business. As with most things in the fashion industry it's who you know. Position yourself close to the industry in NYC or LA your chances increase this way. The Art Academy - FIDM and other 'Fashion Schools' are private franchises and they make their money not by getting Students into business but by enrollment and government subsidies. The education is marginal and you end up with quite a loan to payback and little job opportunity. Contact designers in NYC and offer to help for free, most interns are trustfunders how else could they live in Williamsburg with 3k mortgages.
