I actually don't think it's odd at all. She understands her place in music history. She believes herself to be of "Legendary" status, on a level with Aretha, Tina, Diana, Whitney. She knows those women and their careers inside and out because she has studied them as an apprentice studies the masters. She has seen their concerts and she has seen the photos that exist of them in the public. And of Aretha and Tina and Diana and Whitney, there are MANY photos that aren't flattering. That don't do justice to the enormity of their influence or talent. That only are brought out in tabloids to bring their names down. And so Beyonce, being the popstar today who is THE most acutely in control of her own image, has taken the reigns over literally every avenue of her career. Including the concert photos. SHE controls which ones are seen and which ones aren't. She understands the reality that in 35 years people will be interested in the career that she had and will be looking at archival footage and archival photos. And so she wants them ALL to be on a level. She wants them ALL to be perfect. To convey Legendary. I admire her immensely for this, actually. She has enough foresight and care to actively build upon her legacy, even whilst she's at her peak.

I really don't think of her tour photos as candids, no pap would ever have access backstage or a few moments before she goes up on it much less while she's performing...it's nice to see what goes on, her wardrobe changes, and at times a small peek at her personal life. She's so private we would never get pics of her unless it's a public appearance or her rarely out and about. She's one of the few celebs who controls the paps at her will, lives where they won't bother her, travels by helicopter to avoid them, has a security team to keep her and her family safe, avoids them at all cost unless when it's needed as part of her celeb status. It's nice she gives out pictures on her tumblr and she can control which ones.

Have you watched her documentary? She puts "that much thought" into literally every aspect of her persona, especially the images of herself that are presented to the public.

I think that's why people like her so much. Fun and entertainment are wonderful things and if someone's music or performance can make you happy it's a beautiful thing.
However, that hat/hair combo is horrendous.
