My favorite blue colors are more of royal blue colors. Think of the University of Kentucky and Duke University as far as the specific hue of blue I enjoy. Last week, the friendly Korean manager of the Schlotzsky's deil across the street from my community college (the one who often wears her black 2-inch tall Volatile platform sandals) wore a furry blue top and paired them with black pants and even black socks. The combination of a rich blue color paired with black was amazing. Black and blue is very common with me. A lot of my computer art involving nighttime usually entails gradients that go from black to blue. I mostly like royal blue with black as well as very rich blue colors with black. Sapphire and black go very well. Azure and black go well as well.
Honestly, I don't really like brighter blues with black. Think Carolina blue with black. Doesn't go too well for me. It's an uneven balance for me to have a brighter blue mixed with black. Now I've seen less saturated blue colors mix with gray, but I'd never go for periwinkle with black. It's an uneven balance. You can even have baby blue and black, and I still think they wouldn't go well. The only instance in which brighter blues and black go together is lighter blues were accents. Never let a luminous blue be paired with black. Only exception is if you're wearing a black top with black bottoms with the top having bright blue accents. I'd never pair black with a bright blue. I wouldn't let the bright blue dominate my look. I'd only use brighter blues to offset the dark colors.
That's just my suggestion. Still many ways to wear blue and black to absolute sweetness.
