i guess just different things click with different people. I hadnt heard any hype about them here in australia so i had no idea what to expect but i found them fun, their music can really get me going ( banquet) and their lyrics are just beautiful sometimes ( blue light)

I agree it isn't great or even good music but as I have seen so many bands being crap live, I couldn't help being impressed by the energy at their set in Reading. However the album leaves a lot to be desired but maybe I haven't given it a change... the best music never hits you immeditately -the most commercial music does. However the best music stays for a lot longer if it is given the chance. The listener has to put in effort too for it to be a fulfilling experience

If you can listen to 'This Modern Love,' and not totally melt over it, I'll leave you alone.B)

i'm just going to hop on the defending bloc party bandwagon. their lyrics are amazing, the music is inspiring and at times beautiful and atmospheric('this modern love' 'blue light' 'pioneers' 'luno'), man they do fast songs awesome but the slow ones even better - which is a good quality for a band to have. its disapointing nme have hyped them so much (which they always do with bands!) and turned people off them in doing so, but i think they are worth it. and they are original, not like those (it seems manufactured :ninja: ) new indie/rock bands that are coming out that think they can get away with looking good and making music which is random and others have done before (and somehow they get fans :yuk: ). i hope i am making sense, maybe i love bloc party too much for my own good ^_^ . silent alarm is in my top 10 favourite cds ever, i think its just amazing.

I was telling the same thing to my brother just a moment ago.:o^_^:flower:

I don't really care for Bloc Party though. I like some of their songs, (helicopter was so catchy ;)) but not enough to listen to their albums.:ninja:

....
It looks like I love those smilies

siennainlondon well said! at first i hated silent alarm..but after a while i started to get it and love it

I've heard their CD... listened to it a few times.
I'm trying to like it but I can't...
They're just an average band to me. :S

This cd lost replay value for me quickly...
To be honest, a lot of these bands today (franz ferdinand, bloc party, interpol)
are maybe too heavily influnenced by past bands.. (Joy Division, Gang of Four)
Aren't they just skirting the edge of really being 'indie' too?

I agree with Sienna in London.

has anyone heard their new song 'two more years'? its not their best song..its along the lines of 'blue light'. but i like it :)

I've got the Silent Alarm - Remixed album and I'm listening to it way more than the original. Dare I say....the remixes are better than the originals!

yeh i really like two more years city girl. I thought it was just average at first but then the chorus gets going and i really like it.

Wow, I'm bumping this up just to throw my 2 cents in :flower:
They're aren't very popular here on campus, but that's to be expected considering most people just listen to "Top 40" . . .
I happened to stumble upon them when Blue Light was on The OC, who knew. It's been a love affair ever sense.
This Modern Love, Like Eating Glass, and Plans are my top 3.
Ok, I'm done :p

I'm listening to Silent Alarm right now after giving it a few months break and I'm falling in love with it all over again. I wish they could have come here to do a show, I think they did Coachella yesterday. Saw them three times last year though and they were amazing live, not many of my friends like them though so I went on my own once, lol but I met them after their bowery show. And I saw Russell at Misshapes and surprisingly he wasn't shy at all.

yesterday i went on a long drive and i listened to plans and compliments while driving past a rainforest that was up a hill. it was such a haunting and wonderful experience  those are my two favourite bp songs

I love Positive Tension, it is such an interesting song and it has great energy. Matt is a really good drummer too.
