Bottega Veneta F/W 2022.23

And just like that...Bottega Veneta lost its allure and sense of cool (to me). Looks like a COS or GAP ad.

COS! Now that you said it, I can’t unsee it!

It’s true though, it lacks a strong vision.

Turns out BV needed Daniel Lee more than he needed them. In one year he will be helming another Maison and in the meanwhile Bottega will be struggling to keep the sales and momentum going that he was the mastermind of.

I really like it! At least it doesn't radiate that annoying, pretentious aura of Lee's later campaigns. I think they will also go back to some elements of Maier's aesthetic in terms of creative direction and this campaign somehow reminds me of that tenure, in a nice way.

I like the warmth of it. Joyful expression of the model brings me back to the early 90s which I love. My only complaint is the actual product lol. That big is ridiculous. It's been a long time since I have seen a design this stupid. Who tf would carry it this way?

Honestly, Matthieu seems like a very sweet guy, but I just don't think his vision is strong enough or singular enough. There is no sense of daring. No thrill of surprise. Which is maybe exactly why he was given the job. His Instagram perfectly sums up his aesthetic - perfectly tasteful and expectedly unexpected.

I wish him the best, but, like Pieter Mulier, I don't think they have the guts to be true "Creative Directors."

Well it's nice to have a bottega bag, but this hideous "bag" would never make me grin like him.

The vibe is gone. These newest images look very nondescript and generic. If you compare this to the dynamic campaigns that they had before under Daniel Lee, this is even more disappointing...

They are nice images but they don't sell any lifestyle whereas Daniel did and brilliantly.

Beautiful clothes are not enough, given the prices, to have crazy sales. People need a whole fantasy and really there is none with this campaign.

Under Daniel, he knew how to sell Bottega as a sexy luxurious brand without sex. I miss him already.

it’s random AF

I like the first shot and the one with the boots.

Mariacarla’s shot is EVERYTHING and they missed a huge opportunity for not going with this mood for the whole a campaign.

the shot with Chu is also good but it’s all so directionless…. individually it will look good on the pages of the glossies but it annoys me that it’s all a bit aimless.

It seems like they just shot these either before or after the show. Same location, models, etc. as the F/W show. Kering execs must be happy that they didn't have to fly out a crew to some luxurious spot for a campaign. Not sure how much of a hit Blazy's BV will be, it's barely gotten any press -- but I can see it attracting back old BV clients who were probably alienated by Lee's direction.

They’re retreating from the extreme changes like they did with YSL. From the layout and the direction. Time will tell if this is a good compromise.

Such a great collection for such a gloomy campaign. This suddenly reminds me that Blazy, while talented, is part of the « intellectuals » crowd. No sense of fantasy in RAF’s crowd.

What might bring the old clientele back is the bags. Because if it’s RTW, considering that it wasn’t even 5% of their sales before Lee, they have gained actually in the past 3 years.
They should bring back the Lauren tho.
