Just thought I'd mention that I went to the spring trunk show today--if anyone didn't get to go & has questions, I can tell you what I saw :flower:

Not sure how many Bottega fans we have here though :innocent: Hanne, I think?

Well, of the bags, I liked the metallic ones with the circular weave design, which is really pretty ... this is the metallic leather ... style.com doesn't seem to have a pic of my favorite (may not have been on the runway).

Everything (as usual) was beautifully made. I ordered this skirt:

^ ta-ta, I know you were looking for some detail pictures of that skirt in a different thread, so I found some on Elle.com. I'm not positive if the first picture is of the same skirt, but it certainly looks like it. Great choice, by the way!

I always thought Bottega Veneta's bags were really underrated. You rarely see them but I find them all to be very beautiful.

Oh thank you, seanutbutter! Your pix are much better! (Sorry I can't give you karma again!) I was thinking of going to look on Vogue Italia's site, but hadn't done it yet. That first shot does a great job showing the front panel & pockets.

Btw, the samples were the ones worn on the runway--Stammy has an insanely small waist

Just wanted to mention here the interview with Tomas Maier in the new (February 08) issue of Bazaar--it's a great article. L'Wren Scott is quoted & has some very interesting comments. She mentions the impeccable construction of the clothes [quite true], and apparently she is inseparable from her lavender croc BV bag, which retails for what some would consider house money ($78K, made from up to 17 skins). Hermes is starting to look like a bargain--only car money for croc there

I didn't realize till I read this article that Tomas came from Hermes.

Also lots of info about their manufacturing process, if it's even fair to use that term for something so artisanal. Apparently the workers wear brown lab coats--I imagine the same shade as the brown slacks the SAs wear?

fashionista-ta - I like that first bag you posted. Is that in the stiffer goatskin that they do sometimes, and is it a slightly metallic-gold colour? I remember when that came out last year and I really liked it (or something like that) but they sold out so quickly. I like the BV woven bags but they are so soft it makes me so wary about buying it because they might get damaged easily :(

$78,000? I would certainly hope she'd be inseparable from that bag, for that price!

Yes on the color, but I'm sorry I don't know details about the leather. It looked soft but substantial.

You may want to read the article in Bazaar--they test every skin before using it, etc. I have not owned any of their leathergoods (their bags seem to be too big or too small for me, not to mention on the pricy side), but my impression is they would really last.

Pat McGrath is quoted in the article--she carries a BV bag. According to her, hers takes alot of abuse and they "last forever."

I love Bottega Veneta. I think their exotics are the best. I would love a whole wardrobe full of the clothes!

Here's the Harper's Bazaar February 2008 article mentioned earlier.

Private sale starts next Thursday ... 30-50% off selected bags & leathergoods, 50% off most shoes, 50% off clothes.

Question ... where can one buy Bottega clothes in the US, other than the boutiques and NAP? The boutique is looking for something in Europe in my size ... in case they can't find it, I'm just wondering if I have any alternatives :flower:

I am pretty sure Matches ships state-side?

Good luck! I heart the off the shoulder quilted dress they are doing now

^ Thanks, I'll check it out :flower:

PS They don't have the item I'm looking for, but they do indeed carry shoes, bags, clothes, and sunglasses, so great source, thank you.

There is also a nice piece in the August issue of Elle US - "Brief Encounter - In the Hands of Bottega Veneta's Tomas Maier, Luxury is an Elegant Yet Decadent Affair."

I found it to be interesting. And the photos are great.
