From www.style.com:

NEW YORK, september 9, 2005 – Not every 24-year-old fledgling gets props from The New York Times prior to his runway debut. But then there's nothing average about Brian Reyes. He's a self-taught designer, who in a very short time has worked (in various roles) at Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, and Oscar de la Renta. His spring show, for which Eliza Reed Bolen grabbed a front-row seat, proved that the last of those three mentors informed his aesthetic the most. The evidence? A distinct "lady" attitude, and a three-dimensional rose-petal-embroidered skirt that had both sass and class.

"I wanted to tell a beautiful story, to show my love for my craft and my country," said Reyes, referring to his parents' homeland, Colombia. From delicate, braided straps on lace-trimmed camisole tops, to a caramel-color skirt constructed entirely of plaits, his love of the craft was apparent. Texture was also abundant, in the form of wood beading, raffia embroidery, silk burlap fabric, and a branch print. All of which tied in well with the safari theme, which was introduced in the second look: a khaki hacking dress. Reyes' clientele isn't likely to hunt for anything more endangered than a last-minute reservation at Per Se, though. He's designing for a woman with less-than-wild tastes. There were godet and pencil skirts for the uptown set, and deeply cuffed trousers and thirties-influenced crinkled-silk-chiffon blouses, paired with shrunken boleros of the same fabric and color (a new take on the twinset), for the occasional dalliance downtown. With this collection, if Reyes didn't exactly explore new territory, he certainly aligned himself with a solid tradition. So is he worthy of the hype, and a promising newbie? In the words of Shakira, which blasted through the sound system, "claro, claro, claro."

The first outfit seemed slightly exciting... ..... and then the rest is quite terrible... B)

I love the majority of all this. There are some boring outfits and then some really splashy outfits. The majority of those boring one are still on ww.style.com, not here :P
You can definetly see where he has worked before...

As a whole don't think it's horrible, but it leaves me completely indifferent.

I actually like this a lot. So far I've seen a whole lot of bland collections, but this is really nice. There are a couple of pieces that don't quite work, but as an overall collection it captures a nice mood, and I like it.

the article makes it seem like there are some really interesting textures in the pieces, but its really hard to see them..i guess i would have to actually see them up close to make a decision (and that's probably not going to happen any time soon  ) overall, i'm not cringing or anything...

There seems to be a slinky, structured lightness to the clothes that I hope is something in the air, something contagious. The colour choices are appropriate.

very mixed collection with just, few sweet pieces (like the b&w print looks)

how does a 24 year old boy from Columbia, who I have never heard of till now, get to do a show in Bryant Park????

Where did he come from, better question si where is he getting funding. they should pull it out from under him his clothing so so like yawn!!!

What does being from Columbia have to with do anything? He's worked at michael kors, oscar de la renta, and tommy hilfiger, that should be enough design exeperience. Just because he is young or hispanic doesn't mean he can't show in Byrant park. And I don't think his clothes are that bad.

^i agree, and considering this is his debut collection i'm quite impressed by the beautiful clothes he's showing! i'm definitely looking forward to seeing more by him.

i don't like this at alll. as a show its pretty weak

^ I agree Lena. Just read that before coming here and was all excited to see what he had to offer!! I like most everything in post #1. The rest I'm not too ecstatic about...

hype can be good but can also be dangerous..
obviously it can't take a collection too far if it lacks great ideas

I don't think this collection is weak at all. It's not high fashion, it is very easy-going, casual, but very beatiful collection.
The bads thing about this collection is that it actually could be done by anybody. It doesn't stand out a lot, but I can imagine people buying this a lot, cause it just blends in. This black and brown dress is beatiful. It looks like it's made this model (don't know who she is).

^ I think it's Hawa? :flower:

I like bits of it, especially the first piece

Some of it's quite nice.....the rest is nothing spectacular.
