Oh, no! He was so talented and young.... I'll never have the chance to buy new work from him now.

Only found out about this now.... .. his work was always beautiful and full of meaning and romance for me.. the way he worked with volumes, colors.. textures ... it's even sadder that he was young and still had so much to deliver. At least he left his professional field setting a good example of the possibility of achieving success with full creative freedom, none of his work screamed a need to subscribe to anything, be it commercial territory or 'avant garde' dogmas. And of course the life lesson of putting up with a cancer battle for a long time.

We all know the Scottish like to stick together, so it didn’t come as a surprise when Bryan began assisting Alister Mackie in the early days of Dazed & Confused. But more than their roots, they shared a vision for men’s styling that is unique in our industry and after assisting Alister, Bryan defined his own brand of romantic glamour and twisted decadence with Another Man.

His contribution to the Dazed Group has been huge. It’s an impressively memorable and enduring portfolio of work that has and will continue to influence the style and thinking of generations to come. As friends and extended family, most of us at Dazed were aware of Bryan’s suffering. It’s impossible to know what he went through but what he revealed to me was true courage. He touched me in a more profound way than anyone else I have worked with, because he was a constant reminder that true courage lies in facing your fears – and despite his fears he never once, when it came to his work or commitment to friends or colleagues at the magazine, let them better him. He is more of a man than I will ever be and for his example I am truly grateful.
