I'm not even sure why they are showing during ny fashion week. i really don't consider them a label that should. And the shirt says: surf now, apocalype later buddhist punk

awww...i luv the name...it originated on t-shirts and then became the label i think...

thanks for clarifying the top...i think it's joyyy, i spose aussie surfers would get it...

and yeh, it's a street label so i wouldn't expect to much...

they had a show because they had the money...remember...that's all you need...you don't actually need talent or anything...there's no approval process...they didn't 'get' a show...they paid for one...

and i agree with everyone else...it's very LA...a bit trashy....very posh spice and kylie minogue... i like the t-shirts and the silkscreening...

really doesn't merit a show during fashing weeek...because it's not really fashion...

Is putting 'Buddhist' and 'Punk' together genuinely meant to be ironic or d' you think they just liked the sound of it?

I know your question is rhetorical... but we just has a post about fashion & liberalism so I feel compelled...

I don't think authentic Buddhism and the authentic punk movement clash at all -- both are lessons in morality & creativity

I do think the designers of Buddhist Punk are capitalizing on a trend, definitely undermining the evocations of Buddhism & punk...

I don't know what you consider authentic punk but as I understand it the British punk movement was about disaffected youth who rejected society, particularly by dressing to shock, in return for their feeling of rejection from society. The punk movement seems to me like it was a very sad bunch young people who were desperate to be accepted. As far as I can see, the punks believed in anarchy instead of anything as humanist (and conventional) as morality.

The essential thing here is that, as far as I can see, the punks were are a very sad, disaffected bunch of people, whereas Buddhists often tend to be very contented with life.

You don't know much about Buddhism or Punk

the first truth of Buddhism is that life is suffering

I really like Buddhist Punk, some is a little bit tarshy, but I liek alot of there stuff, it dosn't translate well to run way either.

Verushka rocks!

Some believe anarchy is the philosophy most conducive to morality :flower:

Must keep thread about fashion, so I will reiterate that I am fascinated by the juxtaposition of Buddhism & punk since it is unexpected to think of the two together... I would be much more interested in the collection if it weren't for the obvious misrepresentations of both modes of thought (example: naval commander hats)

In your opinion - in mine, you know very little about either.

An extremely unenlightened attitude which doesn't suggest very deep study of Buddhism... :innocent:
