Burberry F/W 2021.22 London

Wow finally the Tisci I know and excpected. It took so long. I love that it has direction. Im so excited about it that I totally dont care if its Burberry or not. Yes it might be quite heavy handed here and there expecially with design gimmicks, but I prefer it over putting less effort into it and it feels very directional and Tisci. And tbh I kind of dont mind Tisci- like gimmicks. Now this is the right direction and go further from here.

The more I look at it, the more I really like it.

It's too directional for Burberry and the gold paillette pieces are lovely but almost too glam for the brand. Even as strong as some of the edgy pieces are, they don't translate to Burberry.

I do like that he is designing actual clothing that shows his skill, even if a bit overcomplicated. I want to see him somewhere but Burberry doesn't seem to be it. I certainly don't want to see him at Versace if they are going to continue down their dumbed down corporatization and merchandising excercise.

I feel like Tisci did half these looks already when he was at Givenchy. The red suit. The turtleneck dresses. The gold scale pieces. Definitely the shoes.... I’m not going to praise him for repeating himself.

The other half doesn’t impress me.

Does anyone remember why Tisci left Givenchy? The house is doing so poorly aesthetically without him. And Tisci seems lost too.

He decided to leave. At some point, designers feels the need to challenge themselves. He revived Givenchy but Burberry is a whole different organisation and setting. And while the success is not comparable, he is proving that somehow, he can do this kind of thing. His Burberry is maybe a lukewarm success but it is nevertheless.
