), I'm here to reiterate that it has been quite good all along and that Burberry flopping is not really his fault. Other than clearly trying to give the house more of a fashion edge while keeping it 'homely' - which the suits aren't appreciating because they still want it to be all about the trench and the check - Lee is rather capable of creating high-quality "everyday" pieces that would be great commercial offerings elsewhere too, whether it's a roll-neck with a chic little s(p)lit in the front, natty tailoring that makes you think it was precisely him behind some of Phoebe's hits at Céline or sturdy-yet stylish footwear. In line with that, I hope he soon moves to a brand that will appreciate and utilise his output more than Burberry does.
Kim Jones can be, sporadically, quite capable menswear designer. Years ago he has turned modest LV menswear line (developed up until 2011 by Peter Helbers - a very good designer in my opinion who worked with Margiela himself) into a powerhouse making sh*t loads of money for Arnault who then, in turn, elevated him to the position of menswear artistic director of Dior when he again, made them millions of euros just from one department in spite of mixed critical reviews. The biggest mistake was when his menswear abilities were presented as a strong and reliable fundament for womenswear which, as we saw, was a complete trainwreck from the beginning to the end. He will get another prestigious position because he is still capable of designing commercial pieces which will be sold to preferred demographics like Asia etc.
