So, I told you guys about this in the customizations thread and it got published today. A local alt weekly paper "challenged" me to do a few outfits that would look up to date at the thrift stores with only $100 (I only spent $63). I was totally up for it, but when I got to the stores it was all Summer stuff so it made it really difficult. I had to alter some things to get what I wanted. In the 2nd pic, the top was an full length nightgown, the skirt 501s and the earrings were a necklace. I wasn't at the shoot and really wish I would have been because they left out bags on both outfits which were both very cool including a python clutch. Here's how it turned out:[attachmentid=24695]

Like I said, I wasn't at the shoot, so don't mind the "couple" poses....

congratulations chris..!!!...you did a great job turning that nightgown into a top and the jns into a skirt...

i wish i could see her outfit a bit better in the first shot...

it's too bad about the models and the poses...but it is the deep south after all... ;) ^_^

Good Job...!!! :flower:

Good on ya, Chris. I am liking the looks you came up with. I have a top a LOT like that little red one and I really love that brown jacket. I'd totally wear that! I wear guys' clothes if I like it well enough.

I know I could lay waste with $100 and free run of the junk-shops around Kansas City. Hell, I got four dresses and four blazers for under $30. I've gotten piles of work clothes for my husband for under $50...several pairs of pants, 10 shirts at a whack.

I am a good bargain finder. For Todd's work clothes, I'm not looking for style that much, but if I find something cool that he could wear elsewhere I will pick it up. I've gotten him some great shirts for $3-5 each, and his grubbies for work are usually around $2-3 each. I bought like 8 pair of khaki shorts for him to tear up this summer for $2 each.

As a rule, I won't buy anything secondhand for more than $20. Some of my greatest stuff...that yellow plaid dress, the maroon velvet blazer, my green 1950s handbag were under $15.

Thanks guys!

It was a fun project. A lot more difficult than I thought it would be because the stores were so barren, which I'm not used to. The other thing was I had never met these people. I was just given there sizes, not even coloring. The girl was a size zero, so it was really hard to find her size. I spent so much on stuff for myself and friends though. I hadn't been hardcore thrifting in ages. That's when I got the super hot burgandy tuxedo jacket and white opera scarf that I wore on my birthday.
