Calvin Klein F/W 07.08 NYC

it was beautifully plain. plain because its just what CK does best and beautiful because Francisco did some great detailing.. loved the attention!

I think so too. Minimalism does not have to mean absolutely no decoration

Yeah, I think that some people interpret Minimalism as cold, boring, modern and dead. It's not. It simply means refined, beautiful materials, colors and feelings sans a lot of noise. ;)

Totally agree!!! Only people who understand the real beauty will understand how minimalism work, thank god most of you here are very intellectual.......

I can't believe how positive the reviews have been...I think the clothes look so bad...There is no buzz around Costa, every now and then one of the magazines will do a little coverage, but in general there seems to be this unspoken consensus that he is not a good designer. I also hate Natalia Vodianova, and its too bad they picked her to represent there company for the past however many years, because a lot of people think she is ugly looking, but she also doesn't connect with the public like Kate Moss did when she was the face of Calvin...they need a new face and a new designer...These clothes look like costumes from Total Recall, it makes me really nostalgic for Calvin, Jil, and Helmut, because the people who have replaced them don't do minimalism right.

So what do you like? Who is good designer to you!?

CK is going down hill

Well like I said in the post above Calvin, Jil, and Helmut were all good designers. I like Raf for his own label, I like United Bamboo, and I like Balenciaga. But really it doesn't matter which designers I like, I'm just saying I don't like this one...There is no connection seas to season, each time it is some weird one note collection, that has nothing to with the history of the brand. This collection doesn't reflect the kind of minimalism Calvin Klein is known for...Growing up I thought everything about Calvin was cool, CKONE, the ad campaigns, the clothes, everything. Now Calvin is gone, the designs suck, and the ads are sooo bad, and the new frangrances suck...It's a shame not just about the clothes, because they were also known for innovative advertising and really good fragrances, now the ads look like Perry Ellis and the new fragrances smell like sh*t.

and yet the majority of the people in this thread on this site seem to think this collection was very good. many of these people work in the fashion industry-

I totally agree, I am one of them......: )

I know it's very down to personal taste and preferences - I probably wouldn't wear head to toe calvin klein but, come on, how can anyone say he's a bad designer and everything in this collection sucks??? Can you imagine how hard it must be for a relative unknown designer with his own independant taste and ideas to come and try to continue the Monster Machine that is Calvin Klein, try to make it new, interesting from season to season yet recognizble and desirable? To make the main collection so it can trickly down to the other lines nicely? I think he is doing a fantastic job! All the outerwear is perfect and so is the evening wear. It's no marcheesa but it will appeal to people who've been buying into calvin klein style for years.
I agree Moss had more of an impact when she represented the brand but times have changes, she has changed, her look and her name has completely different connotations now. Natalia might not be the perfect beauty but ugly??? I wonder where one has to live where someone like Natalia can be considered ugly.

Costa never seems to disappoint me. Some of the cuts and shapes are really gorgeous, and I love the different textures and shades of gray.

I like how classy you are when you have to respond such post.
Whats not to like this collection.......oh BTW, check www.vogue.fr for video. There are some really simple dresses with very skillful draping details, if you know about clothes, you know how hard to make this.

I'm sure Natalia is a superhuman, but in terms of print, there are so many other exciting models out there they could be working with, and I just think she's not the one to solely represent the collection. So yes, I overstated it, she's obviously not ugly, but I don't think she's a supermodel either. As for Costa, it's true it comes down to personal taste, but you have to admit there hasn't been a lot of continuity between his collections, and I'm not sure what he stands for, or if he does stand for something, why would that be right for Calvin Klein? They should've hired Narciso if you ask me. The label is so famous that in the hands of a really amazing designer who knows what it could be.

I think FC done an amazing job comparing to the old CK collection......do some study, go to style.com and look at the history.......
Oh btw, even when Calvin still around, toward to the last few collection before he retired, FC was already involved! He really been around for while.
And yet PVH are doing amazingly well, one of the reason is, collection is functioning, it effects to the white label, jeans, underwear & many are followed.
You tell me FC doesnt do a good job? Come on.....Balenciaga and Lanvin are still losing money. Creativity and business need to be well balance. Get it!?

After seeing all Milan shows, I still think Calvin is one of my favorite......
I would say, Marni, Jil, Prada are also amazing.

Such a fantastic collection. Really holds up. And the Madonna "Justify My Love" soundtrack makes the whole collection feel really erotic. It also gives it a very early 90's New York subtext. Think Gwyneth Paltrow in "A Perfect Murder" - well-bred, wealthy and polished, living in the, at the time, dangerous and seedy city.

The fantastic thing about Costa is that he can take one or two very simple details and design a whole collection around them. For example, with this collection he used a pair of pleats which he had hanging from the shoulders, continuing a draped neck on the front, or on the front of a skirt.
It's so simple and yet so beautiful, and he uses this idea every season, a different detail with different fabrics - and that is why, though his clothes aren't always flattering, they're always interesting.
