Cameron Russell
Columbia University (class of 2012), Majoring in economics and political science
By her third day as a professional model, Russell booked jobs for Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs. Now a 24-year-old economics and political science major at Columbia University, she quickly realized that sexed-up models can sell more than just clothing. Inspired by the Benetton aids awareness ads of the 1990s, Russell recruited fellow models Crystal Renn and Heidi Mount to disrobe with her for a film against global warming (get it? Cool your bodies, cool the planet) that she made in 2009 for 350.org.
BOOKWORM
Westsider Books on Broadway and 81st Street has a sweet little selection, but of course it’s hard to beat the Strand.
PAPER CHASER
I love wandering the stacks in Butler Library, but the computer lounge in Havemeyer Hall lets you print without limits!
DAILY DOSE
A big cup of green tea from Oren’s Daily Roast.
TRANSIT TALK
You’d be crazy to drive a car here — the subway is so much faster. But when the weather is nice, I’ll bike up the West Side Highway to class.
CAMERON SAYS
Have fun, do all the reading and learn how to work in groups.
