I read an interveiw once where the asked her what she thought about Anna Wintour and I can't rember the quote exactly but she said something like, "She is very nice. And very busy." and that was it. I loved it. The reported said the undertone was that she wasn't a huge fan of her American couterpart!

Roitfeld was approached by Jonathan Newhouse to edit French Vogue in 2001. She was already earning a lot of money and 'was not raised' to manage people. 'But I love to change. I always love to push myself because I am not so self-confident. I always make me big things to do.'

Minor point: she was actually "noticed" and approached by Gardner Bellanger, the American former CEO of French Condé Nast, one of the last of the larger-than-life Ab Fab-style grande dames to walk - or stalk - Condé Nast's corridors.

I know i haven't written in weeks but here it goes...

As soon as it the December issue of French Vogue hit the stands and despite my scarce knowledge of French, i went and bought it.

I'm so glad i did that. Carine Roitfeld has done an excellent job despite the fresh and slightly put-together-at-the-last-moment mood of the magazine. It was refreshing to see something less structured and unpretentious for once. (no offence to other magazines for i've always been a fan of the Italian vogue and other fashion mags.)

It completely reflects tha air of effortless elegance, French women have.
