“The only important thing is that it’s effortless,” Carolina Herrera said of her pre-fall collection. She approached the idea mostly via silhouettes, which, from linear to A-line, were simple in the most positive sense of the word. These uncomplicated lines felt crisp and modern.
Herrera always likes a motif; this season, she went for the ladybug, which appeared as a print as well as broochlike adornments on several looks. It provided a touch of whimsy, but the lineup’s real strength was in the ultrachic day clothes. These included several double-faced cashmere pieces, such as a chic coat that seamlessly transitioned from material to suede to striking dégradé effect, and a white jacket with rabbit fur finely woven into the sleeves.
For evening, Herrera worked lace and organza into a floor-length shirtdress. Its shape was indeed simple, and also effortlessly elegant.
