Carolina Herrera Resort 2025 Mexico City

Gorgeous. Every single look. The prints, the colors, the shirts, the skirts, the dresses. The makeup and the jewelry too. Been a long time since I've seen a collection that colorful and that joyful.

That Otomi-inspired print already got Carolina into trouble once. Did she not learn from her mistake or did she stop stealing designs and start paying Mexican artisans?

Exactly what you’d expect and, I think, exactly what their customer wants.

Agree.
Wes Gordon loves Raf's Dior and the good Balenciaga (SS13, the last 10 looks of FW17), but everything here is simplified, so that the customer feels just beautiful.
It might feel a little derivative fashionwise, but I find it more honest than selling an Haute Couture tshirt handpainted in biological cotton blablablah for 30.000€.

despite this collection being so "safe" it feels refreshing to see real clothes that actually deliver what customers want. As a whole the collection is beautiful, despite not being the type of things I would wear even if I had the money

He is young, and his work is soo dated! Even some collections Carolina made back in the 90s looked more modern than anyone from Wes.
It's a issue that a lot of similar brands (like Rucci, de la Renta, Wu) are facing: the age-old tropes of haute couture and the general risk-averse nature of the American fashion landscape doesn't really make for the best recipe for modernity.

For me, that quote just reinforces why Wes is so right for her brand. Reject modernity, embrace tradition. More than enough people are sending wacky sh!t down the runway. Carolina Herrera was never that girl. It's not about stunts to get tongues wagging, it's about selling clothes. There are actual paying customers who just want a beautiful dress. That's why the brand is succeeding.

I understand that and found myself nodding along with your first comment when I first clicked on the thread. I just find his propositions lacking something in attitude that made Mrs. Herrera's clothes relevant/resonant in the first place. A more daring take, or a sense of clarity as to why this old school elegance should matter rn. His take always seems rather textbook elegant, it's not deepening her codes and feels dated. There are always pretty separates, many of the first 4 rows of looks can be worn naturally in everyday life. But the styling seems unstylish and if you look at the way Mrs. Herrera conducts herself, there's a steely pov beneath the sunny surface which makes the whole thing works better imho. The picture and the screenshot were posted to show how at her core her old world sensibilities seem authentic and therefore, cool and desirable. I still think of her ball gowns + crisp white shirts days, a refined take or something along the line I feel would make the brand more exciting clothes-wise.

CH is one of the few brand still embracing the spirit of American fashion even though it is very old-fashioned and dated in the dominant scene of modernity. I guess it is good for the brand to cater this specific clientele who enjoy the elegance and feminity. Some of the prints and color are very beautiful but those Raf’s dior leftover has to go.

On paper that sounds right. My eyes don't lie to me though and they tell me that these look cumbersome and second-tier.
American fashion and tradition don't necessarily have to mean bad or beta at all. Look at Halston and Beene. They still look good today. There has to be a way to translate those codes more effectively. She could focus more on her jet-set side maybe which was so glamorous.
She named her daughter Carolina Herrera Jr. which I always remember. There's something strong and proud about her as a person. The brand should reflect that.

Wes worked with four traditional Mexican artisans : María de los Ángeles Licona from Hidalgo, Virginia Verónica Arce and Jacqueline España Capilla from Tlaxcala and Araceli Nibra Matadamas from Oaxaca.
