To most people on most days, Caroline Trentini is the Brazilian supermodel who walked in the Paris shows last week and is a fixture in ad campaigns and magazine editorials, but last night, she was just a girl supporting her photographer boyfriend at his solo debut in New York City. Victor Demarchelier’s “Creating Images” opened at Clic Bookstore & Gallery to a robust crowd that included Grace Coddington, Zac Posen, Didier Malige, and Patrick Demarchelier. Both still lifes and elegant portraits make up the portfolio of Victor, a seeming protégé of his father, Patrick, the renowned fashion photographer with whom he has collaborated on several projects, including a shoot for Vogue’s 2008 Shape Issue. “The most important thing I’ve learned from my father about this work is to treat everyone nicely. When everyone’s comfortable it makes for a better picture. . . . My favorite is the one of Caroline,” he said, nudging Trentini and motioning to one of her seated, posing on a stool. Trentini giggled. “I’m honored to be involved,” she said. “I really believe in what he does. He makes it a very personal experience, no matter who the subject.” Both muse and photographer were headed to dinner with friends after the show. “We usually stay in,” Trentini noted. “Cooking at home with Victor is my favorite.”
