i never thought much of him, until i heard what a groundbreaking actor (and role-model) he actually was. he was originally british working class but he built up the image we have of american middle or upper class. lots of directors used his weird drawling singsong manner of speaking to create the image of upper (upper upper..) class, e.g. billy wilder in some like it hot? (i'm not sure, if i remember it correctly.)

i was searching for the picture that shows him sitting on a table with a smile on his face and one of his feet on the desk. such thing was regarded as really rude and bad manners at that time but he did it with such nonchalance that it was regarded as just laid-back and cool..

and so on. he was great.

yay - thanks for this thread!! :flower:

Did you all know that his real name was Archibald Alexander Leach (to be precise) ?

here is a picture of an elderly Cary Grant: (carygrant.net)

I love him in comical roles, he was quite good at that.

I am so glad that someone made this thread! I love Cary Grant so much! He is just so charming and debonaire. Since the minute I first saw him, I have loved him. He is so funny in comedy roles and so romantic and enthralling in romance movies. He is just wonderful.

All though I read in a biography that he wore womens underwear because he thought it was more comfortable. Haha, still I love him. :D

I love him in An affair to remember, and To catch a theif, Notorious, and Indescreet. :D

Here are just some pictures of him.
My favorite,

Cary Grant: A Celebration of Style (Hardcover)
by Richard Torregrossa, Giorgio Armani (Foreword)

One of the most charismatic movie stars of all time, Cary Grant left an indelible mark on the film industry and on the culture at large. His sense of style--so integral to who he was both onscreen and off--has been admired, copied, emulated, and lauded, but never fully examined, until now. With rare and never-before-published photographs and exclusive interviews with film and fashion luminaries, this groundbreaking book reveals the style secrets that helped make Grant a fashion icon and a perennial inspiration to fans and fashion designers alike. On the 20th anniversary of Grant's death, fashion and style writer Richard Torregrossa makes a powerful case for why Cary Grant matters today more than ever.

he looks very metro. And I dont find him attractive at all.
Most men were well dressed and well groomed back then although I think Cary Grant was always one of the better dressed men.

^ Always.
I suppose that now a days since guys aren't so well kept anymore, when you find one that is, it would appear that he is metro.

kateelle if you haven't seen a Cary Grant you really should. I think a lot of his appeal is his charm and charisma which you can only see when he is onscreen. He is a great actor and a true legend.

^ That is what I was gonna say.

He really is fabulous. I'm in love with him.

All though the closest I will ever get to him is: I know someone who knows the son of the man who pronounced Cary Grant dead.

Weird huh?
