Saw her at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco a couple years ago. She sang barefoot, danced a subtle sexy to get in the groove, and sang to a particular bandmate alot. When the lighting guy was putting her in a spot, she had to get him to stop following her around the stage as if she were a burlesque dancer. I think the lighting guy (whom I sorta know as I worked there at the time) was kinda getting off on her dancing, and she picked up on that and wasn't too pleased. However, she was pretty delicate & courteous about correcting it, if she's at all a diva, she's a very cool one. She somehow got across that the singing was for the audience, but the dancing was for her, and that although she knew the lighting man was just doing his job, he didn't need to track her like big game with the spot. I dug her. I like her version of Elvis Costello/Burt Bacharach's "Painted From Memory", and a duet with Angelique Kidjo called "Never Know". She's a pro in world full of amateurs.
