Girl of the moment - Catherine McNeil
This Australian model took the winter runways by storm, clinching major campaigns and coups along the way
Catherine McNeil, an almond-eyed 17 year old from Brisbane, has, in the last month, worked up a fashion CV bursting with heavyweight credentials. Photographer Mario Testino was so impressed with the model that he placed her on an exclusive contract for the French and UK Vogue Titles. (

She's secured campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and Hugo Boss, walked for the likes of Versace, Christian Dior, Stella McCartney and Yves Saint Laurent, and even opened big-name shows such as Givenchy and Alexander McQueen.
How are you surviving the fashion game? Who impressed you most?
To be honest, I was never fully involved in the whole fashion thing, so I'm not sure if that has helped or made it harder. I have found the designers to be so charming. People like Jean Paul Gaultier go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. He tells alot of cute stories to make us all laugh. I've also met Stella McCartney, Nicolas Ghesquiere and Karl Lagerfeld: to actually fnd yourself standing next to them is so weird.
And what about the model pack? Has it been intimidating breaking in?
Absolutely. It's like being back at school and they're the popular crowd. Apart from Gemma [Ward], there aren't really any other Australian girls here, which makes it harder, but she has been really sweet
And what about the show circuit itself? How are you adjusting?
With a lot of support from the people around me. My grandmother came with me to New York, which made it alot easier. I love all the travelling, but unfortunately you rarely get to see any sights. And i have found fashion week exhausting because you only get four hours sleep each night. I don't think people realise how tough it can be, but at the same time I'm really fortunate to be here. I'm having the time of my life!
